No, the kingdom under David or Saul or Solomon was never called Palestine. It was called Israel. The Philistines were their worst enemies, were warred against by Israelis from the time the Philistines landed about 1290 BC (yes, Jews already in the land)...until they were clobbered badly about 1010 and vanished totally by about 950 .

The term Palestine was never used for this land in any way, shape, or form until Pompey and Julius Caesar in the 62-46 BC period needed a name for this new (narrower southern coastal) extension just being added to the Roman province of Syria. They called it (what we know as Israel and Lebanon) "Syria Palestensis"="Syria of the Philistines" to distinguish it from the large inland province based at Damascus.

Thus the last Philistine had died nearly a thousand years before the term "Palestine" came to be.

Meanwhile, the Jews continued to use the term "Pleshet"(also a deriv of term "Philist") to refer to the (alien, enemy) non-Jews living in their land, as distinguished from foreigners who might have asked nicely and received "stranger within the gates" (ie resident alien) status from the Jewish monarchies themselves...

The fate of Pleshet in the next few years is described in Joel, Zecharia, Ovadia, and in Isaiah 14:29-32, not a pretty picture. Reads just like today's news, doesn't it? Notice how Isaiah keeps saying "you WHOLE of pleshet, you ALL of the pleshti" etc to keep modern idiots from denying this refers to all so-called Palestinians, not the so-called Philistines now long defunct.

I think it was very nice of Yasser's thugs to call themselves by the name of uncivilized savages exterminated by the Jews, what is in a name, he was sealing his fate and theirs.

I looked up the history of Palestine in the encyclopedia and it appears that it was originally the land of the Caananites and the Philistines. Then it was united under King David and Solomon and called Palestine. Then broken apart into Judah and Israel under King Saul. This was all more than 1000 years BC. Islam did not even come into the picture until around 675AD.

Obviously Judaism originated in the Middle East and has existed there for a long time and belongs there. If anything doesn't belong in the Middle East, it's Islam because it was there last.

Islam was a religion of war from its inception at Medinah in 622 AD. At the Prophet's death in 632, his forces burst on the world, slaughtering tens of millions of innocents, mostly Christians, until in just 100 years by 732, they had largely conquered France, but were by mighty intevention of God, destroyed there by Charles Martel (upon whom peace, pray now for his soul)

Both Israel with its 4 million Christians and Egypt with its 20 million plus, were brutally conquered by Islamic devils in the 638-640 period. Rivers of Christian blood flowed, and the souls of the Martyrs of Christ, mostly women and children, ascended to heaven like vast golden clouds.

Christians have been been guilty of much that you accuse the Muslim religion. We had wars, wife beating, you name it. We've been there.

The difference being that our Bible does not tell us to do these things unlike the koran. What we have done in stupidity, arrogance and ingnorance in the past, we were not told to do by our God. Islam's god commands these things.

I am guilty of not making my point well.

God used to work miracles to prove the heathen were wrong. He doesn't seem to do that any more.

My point is that you don't score any points for God by tearing down another religion

You provoke them into blind rage.

True, not now. But in the past most wars had a religious component. And most of those wars were between countries of predominately, if not exclusively, Christian beliefs.

If you would study World history and not just Western history I think you would find this statement nowhere near true.

You are a f**king moron. we had reformation and so did the Jews.

Well I am not such a f**king moron as to publicly attack another person's religion if I can help it.

Sheesh. How do you feel when someone calls you a moron for believing whatever you do? The natural response is to get F**king mad.

Thanks for the ping - this article gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling all over. Islam really IS a religion of peace ... as soon as they kill or convert the rest of the planet, and then savagely turn on one another, the last man standing will have peace.

Perhaps not. I was thinking more in terms of Europe during the renaissance and the consolidation of kingdoms/city states, etc.

Islam was originally a religion of Peace.

One example does not make islam a religion of peace. When the whole body of their history and their holy book states differently.

A stupid belief system. A cultural cesspool. Disparaging comments may follow if there is any reason to bother.

God ordered genocide in the OT. Nobody would take that seriously today.

It may come to something like that out of self defense. They are definitely out to get Jews and Christians. I don't deny that.

I just didn't think it was a good idea to trash their religion across the board and publicly.

Wars and wife beating? Are you serious? Christianity was responsible for all of that? Sheesh. I never knew.

Now, what about the kidnappings, revolutions, terrorism, piracy, slavery, and suicide bombings? And more importantly, where are the Bible verses encouraging Christians to wars and wife beating??

Take a look see at the koran and the Bible, then at the first 500 years of Christianity and Islam, and see if you still come up with some equivalency.

You are talking of a time when the average Christian could not even read the Bible he believed in, and only knew what he was told, and was easily led. A time when the only one's who really knew what was written there were those who had been highly educated, that being a very limited few. When muslim hords were trying to invade Europe, and the need to push them back

This is the reason for the reformation. When the common man was able to read the Bible for himself it led to great changes in Christianity.

True. Medinah was originally a Jewish settlement named Yathrib some of whose elders believed that Muhammad might be the the Messiah. They welcomed him and his followers into their settlement. Muhammad used it as a base for raiding caravans for many years.

Nowhere did I say anything about equivalency. Nowhere in the bible did it say anything about wife beating. But people did it and still do. Even supposedly nice Christians before it became fashionable to call the police.

There are things in the OT that people would not do today. No one would march around a town blowing trumpets. They would be arrested. You need a permit ;-).

God ordered killing in the OT. In one case it was to be every man, woman, child and their animals. They were not even to take spoils. I'm not pronouncing judgement on God. I am just calling to your attention that it is in the bible.
