USO Canteen FReeper Style....Saturday....March 23,2002

USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

You just gave me an idea for a slogan for Oregon.

Oregon. It's good for the Soul.

I'm ready to freep too! We need to do all we can to get Cleland out of the Senate this year. Are you a member of the Atlanta area FR chapter? I joined but there is nothing going on, yet. I'm hoping the leaders will get the chapter active soon, or I'm going to have to find some like-minded freepers near me and start freelance freeping! hehehe There are several near us who hang out on this thread. I started a list of their screennames - on my PC. Sure hope the repair guy can recover that file!

Thank you also for your service to our country!

I love F-16 Fighting Falcons! Thanks for posting that pix. Someday I'll post a pix of me when I got to ride in the backseat of an F-16D (two-seat trainer). I'll let you see the 'before' pix, but not the 'after' ones! hehehe (Note to anybody going for an orientation flight in a fighter... DO NOT eat a big Mexican food lunch before the flight!)

Ya got any 5 inchers to work on in the auxillary?:)

Back in my days aboard a Destroyer Tender, the GM's replaced several 5" barrels. It was quite and operation to see. It involved the GM's as well as the rigger's and crane operators in the Deck Gang.

Almost as time consuming as the task of changing a prop on a tin can. Been there - Done that 3 times.

"That Others Might Live"

This amazing photo was taken by Vern Williams, and is of the U.S. Coast Guard boats, USCG 44393 (left) and USCG 44363 (right) in 1992, at Quillayute River.

On the 12th February 1997, USCG 44363 together with three of her four crew members was tragically lost while trying to rescue the crew of a sailing boat at Quillayute River.
The crew where:
Boatswain's Mate Second Class David Bosley, 36.
Machinery Technician Third Class Matthew Schlimme, 24.
Seaman Clinton Miniken, 22.
Seaman Apprentice Benjamin Wingo, 19, survived the accident.

"That Others Might Live" is the title of a book , written by Dennis Noble who was at the station researching another book on that fateful evening
. Let us never forget what a courageous job our lifeboat men and women do, it is far to easy to take them for granted.

I did? I am so glad. I trly feel like I am coming home to go there and I have never even been there before. It is such a strange feeling. I have not felt truly at home in such a long time.

FallGuy can hardly wait to start our search for just the right place. God will direct us I am sure. He knows where we will be already and always has.( smiling)

Thanks again Sam.

That's a pretty impressive photo Tonk. Hard to imagine trying to launch a search and rescue mission in seas like that. Thanks for the info too.

Salute to those fallen heroes.

I trly feel like I am coming home to go there... trly =truly...

When I moved here, somehow I felt that I belonged and it did feel like coming home. I wish I could claim myself as a native, but alas, I'm a native in Spirit only.

I surrender right here and now. I don't keep much of an inventory of those. I do have a library of the inspirational things since I go back and refresh myself with them.
