If you could live and work from anywhere in the U.S, where would that be?
Take into consideration lifestyle, schools, recreation, weather, cost and quality of life, etc.

Don't move to Marin County whatever you do.

You are correct, sir!

anywhere, but somewhere better than LA What's wrong with LA? Lower Alabama (AKA Florida panhandle) is mighty fine.

Can you afford $70k for a 4 bedroom house? It's in Narrows, Va (named for a narrow passage in the New River)

Sorry. If you would seriously consider the Hamptons, then scratch out Wyoming or Florida panhandle for anything more than a visit. Seriously. You won't fit it.

Detroit is a great pick. Virtually no crime rate at all, beautiful scenery, homes kept immaculately landscaped, buildings in pristine condition. It is truly God's answer to the question of where to raise a family.

The best. Right now I am in my bikini getting ready to soak up some rays. I think it must be 82° already here.

Central Virginia, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, Jefferson's country.
Also, I love Miami, with its everglades, gulf stream and tropical ambience, though I think you have to know which parts of Miami to love.

You might wish to consider Fair Oaks Ranch, near San Antonio, Texas. Texas has no income tax, nor is one on the horizon. San Antonio has a large medical center, a variety of good universities - some of which are developing into really good universities - and a wide variety of recreational options. Austin, Texas is 90 miles north and has a lot of high-tech companies.
Fair Oaks is a suburb of about 4,000 people that is 25 miles from San Antonio - lots of bluebonnets, multiacre lots, and so on. Expect a very nice house in the 250 - 350 range.

Southwest Virginia...God's own country. Couldn't agree more. I moved thirty miles TOO FAR to the south, and wound up in east Tennessee. Much of that decision was based on the lack of an income tax in Tennessee. That is about to change. If the corrupt politicians (the best special interests can buy) pass an income tax, I'll scoot back over the Virginia border. For some odd reason, the Virginians take more pride in the appearance of their state. The minute you cross the border heading north, the trash disappears. Go figure. More jobs on the Virginia side (but not that many), and the Abingdon area is hard to beat. The Route 58 corridor between Abingdon and Grayson Highlands is gorgeous...highly recommended.

Man, keep runnin' them Va. pictures. When I lived in D.C. for three years, every weekend I'd drive out to Front Royal, Va. and just explore south from there, on or around the Blue Ridge Parkway. Towns like Luray, New Market, made it as far as Roanoke twice.
My ideal home life would be one of the gorgeous farm/estates, with rolling hills and white horse fences, that are throughout the Shenandoah Valley. That, to me, is the REAL America.

Thanks, AppyPappy! Those gorgeous pics bring a tear to my eye. I went to college at Radford and fell in love with the Blue Ridge then. Gotta get that transfer to my company's Salem office someday...

Boseman Mt or Fargo ND, are the two that I would pick, Boseman may be a bit liberal but most of the people outside the college system are quite conservative. and fargo may have the best school systems in the country.

Where is a ski resort in Texas? Are you talking about water skiing?
