There have to be dozens of equally competent constitutional attornies in this country. Starr is viewed as TAINTED by both liberals and conservatives. I wouldn't trust Starr with ANYTHING until he answers the questions ask of him by Representative Barr in the Vince Foster case. I wouldn't trust Starr with ANYTHING until he explains why he allowed the Whitehouse to keep hundreds of FBI files, which he said were illegal for the Whitehouse to have in its possession, for YEARS after the Whitehouse and FBI publically CLAIMED that they had all been returned. And why didn't he comment on the obvious FALSE statement by the Whitehouse and FBI?

No ... I think this is just a REWARD to Starr for toeing the line ... for not honestly investigating the many crimes committed by the Clinton administration when he had the chance. This is payback and since it is the Bush administration that doing the paying one has to wonder if we really do have a new administration. Is it just a coincidence that Ashcroft has NOT investigated ANY of the Clinton scandals, when it is clear that many of them were covered up by Reno and Clinton administration stonewalling and when they concern serious matters?

I think you may be right. In that impeachments are tried by the Senate, they are at their root political matters, tried partially (mostly) in the court of public opinion. Starr was a lousy politician. However, that is far different from being a capable Constitutional litigator.

But after screwing the pooch with regard to the Vince Foster murder (delegating duties really was his downfall), I have little confidence that he's got the cajones to do the job...

I think it would be a grand idea to drop "the media" from conservative vernacular. Instead of "the media," we should say, "corporate giants who own media outlets" or, at least, "corporate media conglomerates."

My first impression: "The fix is in".

Ny second impression: Starr's name is acid among the media. It will certainly be used to demonize any attempt to block CFR.

My third impression: At least we'll finally get the true lowdown on the sex lives of John McCain and Russ Feingold.

Because altering the First Amendment is so appalling to me that I just like to see the people I respect get mad too. It's all I've got because the people (Bush) I vote for, donate to, and spend HOURS supporting don't seem to care.

I have nothing but respect for Starr. But he was so effectively marginalized politically by democrats during the Lewinsky, et. al. matters that his participation does seem unwise. That said, he's a very competent litigator and Clinton's credibility has declined drastically since Starr's involvement ended.

Ultimately, the SCOTUS will be deciding this issue. The fact that Bush is president today evidences that the Supreme Court can still right the wrongs democrats set in motion in other arenas.
