I am livid about this.So am I. Fortunately, I live in a fairly rural/conservative area. This wouldn't even be an option to the principal (and most teachers) at our elementary school. However, unless we can stop this now, I'll need to find another option for middle and high school.

Statistics show that where abortion and "family planning" are the most readily available - the out-of-wedlock birthrate skyrockets.

They'll hire pedophiles to teach the classes too (how much you want to bet?)

They'll hire pedophiles to teach the classes too (how much you want to bet?)Gives new meaning to "homework" and casts a whole new light on "group projects" and "extra credit" assignments.
Shudder, shudder.

Who controls the government schools of this state anyhow? Bureaucrats, parents, or taxpayers?
Several years ago, a government school administrator whose family is in Greensboro even wrote a guest column for the Greensboro News & Record saying that taxpayers didn't know what a school was for!

I already told my husband if we have to work 2 jobs each - my son will never step foot in a government school. This further cements my resolve and I MADE him read this.

"You need to get comprehensive education at an earlier age when they're the most sexually interested".---WHY? IT WAS THE SO CALLED EDUCATORS WHO MADE THEM THAT WAY!

OH boy looky what I just found
here. It's a speak out section on the N & O website where comments can be made on this subject.
MS. Farmer is a very active participant and Dukie '01 looks like he could be a DU participant. Very scary that people have such little regard for theirs and other children's welfare that they are such strong supporters of this.

She's writing the great American novel in there but at least she doesn't resort to name calling emotional tirades like Dukie '01 does.
This guy reminds me of the type that hang out in Democratic Underground. They just call people that don't agree with them racist etc. and go nuclear rather than debate in a reasonable fact based manner.

Well, as we are in a military community in Germany I thought (see what I get for thinking!) my son could get a good education in a DODDS school. He is in Kindergarten this year at the school. I (thank God) was able to volunteer in the classroom for three days some time before Christmas. What I saw was a massive eye opener for me. Over half of his class does NOT know their alphabet, my son, thanks to our work with Hooked On Phonics is a beginning reader. I went to his school library last week and asked the librarian to help me locate some beginning phonics readers, they had none. They are teaching these kids to count by 10's when most of them dont even recognize any number over 20. There is a "housekeeping" "center" in his classroom. I was appalled to see in this "center" little boys (and girls) dressing up and pretending. Not a bad exercise if there would have been appropriate clothing, oh no, these little boys were prancing around in sequined gowns. Seeing that signed, sealed, and delivered my decision to homeschool.

Just pinged you about a related issue - and success in fighting it in Virginia.

Unbelievable.
Farmer seems to be a one-issue paranoid obsessive, not unlike some of the anti-Confederacy types here on FR.
She seems to want to present her argument with sheer volume of words and statistics... regardless of their veracity.
Dukie is more like the shrill DU type, as you said, who would rather call someone a "racist" or "homophobe" than have to debate the issues at hand.

Do you need help finding materials? I use the Writing Road to Reading (Spalding Phonics) which Hooked on Phonics is based. Well all phonics are based on the Orton Phonagrams, but Romalda Spalding worked with and for Dr. Orton, and then wrote her teaching text. She must be in her 90's now. I had a phonics workshop from her 15-18 yrs ago. For early readers we use Primary Phonics and Dorling Kindersley. I have kids ages 5,6,7 and 13. For math, I am a Saxon fan, but also like Switched on Schoolhouse (7th grader is using it). I love the computer doing all the correcting, grading and reviewing.
I get most of my curriculum from ChristianBooks.com. They have a huge selection and very good prices.
If Laura Bush would make getting phonics, real phonics, back into the schools, it would be one heck of a First Lady accomplishment. She could start with the schools for military dependants.
Good Luck with home schooling. It is the only way to protect your children from the educratic terrorists.
