This study speaks mostly about sexual assault of children, rather than kidapping. I'm sorry, Kim, but children kidnapped out of their beds as they sleep is extremely rare. Admit it.

Sen. Shapiro said she became involved in sex offense issues following the 1993 murder of 7-year-old Ashley Estelle, who was snatched from a playground while her parents were nearby. The murderer was a convicted sex offender released from prison shortly before the crime after serving only 17 months of a 10-year sentence, Sen. Shapiro said. She said an investigation revealed 34 specific errors made by the Texas criminal justice system in the prosecution and incarceration of the man prior to the murder of Ashley Estelle.

repeat.. :) Hmmm, my apologies.. ".if you were to say 2 home abductions by strangers per county..that would be a lot..but statistically, you're right. "

Not unusual? Of course it's unusual. What a pile of horse apples! Look at it this way, Kim. IF IT WERE A NORMAL (i.e., usual) OCCURRENCE FOR CHILDREN TO BE ABDUCTED FROM THE BEDS, WOULDN'T THAT BE ALL THE MORE REASON WHY THE PARENTS SHOULD HAVE KEPT THE DOORS LOCKED AND REMAINED SOBER? You can't have it both ways. Either it is an unusual event that no one could have logically expected (which I've seen argued here before) OR it was an every-day, very usual and normal event, and the parents are greatly at fault for not protecting the children. (After all, if it is so normal, then they should have taken the same precautions they take for other child hazards--childproof medicine bottles, etc.)

The article did not say home abductions at all. It said abductions by strangers. This could have (and likely did) include being snatched from the mall, a car, or coming home from school.

...if you were to say 2 home abductions by strangers per county..

It wasn't two home abductions. It was two abductions. And it wasn't even two abuductions resulting in murder. Just abductions by strangers. Could have been on a sidewalk, or in a parking lot, a park, or a store (like Adam Walsh).

As golitely said, the Danielle story was huge news way before the parents' partying ways were known, precisely because it is so rare. And why the Polly Klaas case was such big news (also, no adult male was at home in the Klaas case and no dog that I'm aware of).

You beat me to it. I was going to make the same comment. What's wrong with parents these days? Seems as though they like making their child look like a baby hooker.

Jeanna North, who was kidnapped, still has not been found. A man who was living on the corner where she was last seen who had a history of victimizing little girls in South Dakota admitted to kidnapping and murdering Jeanna in North Dakota. He has not been charged with the crime even though he provided a full confession. He is serving 30 years in prison for victimizing two other little girls. I continually hear from these parents. If only we had known.

---------------------------------------------------
More data sought on sexual assaults of children
---------------------------------------------------

Except for the aggregate counts of forcible rape of a female victim from Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) statistics, little is known from current law enforcement data about the factors associated with recorded crimes involving rape or attempted rape.

Since there are an estimated 95,000 sex offenders in State prisons today, well over 60,000 most likely committed their violent sex crime against a child under age 18. ...What is even more shocking is that for the majority of these prisoners serving time for violent sex crimes against children, their victims were age 12 and under.
Just over 60 percent of the rapes took place in a residence. About 1 in 3 rapes by a stranger took place in a residence, while 9 of every 10 family rapes occurred in a residence. (NOTE:Doesn't say if it's child's residence...)

BJS's most recent recidivism study tracked a sample of prison releases representing 109,000 offenders discharged from prisons in 11 states in 1983.
Rap sheets revealed more than 19,000 prior arrests for rape and sexual assault preceding the most recent imprisonment and 4,000 arrests for rape or sexual assault in the 3 years following release in 1983.

"On weekends, Tso has developed a no-working, no-golfing policy, to fit in more family bike riding, in-line skating and trips to Disneyland."

Umm, must have one heck of an income as principal (private school maybe?) to afford multiple trips to Disneyland, etc.

Yes, it did not say abductions within the home. I still say that "A national study of child abductions found that 200 to 300 children each year are snatched by a nonfamily member " is a lot..*300 kids can fill an entire elementary school..THAT'S ALOT*. Granted, it's spread out over 12 months.. Over 5 yrs, that's 1000- 1500 kids snatched by strangers.

Again, you're talking about rapes, not kidnappings. Statistics about rapes are meaningless in this conversation unless they are rapes that occur when a child is kidnapped from a home. If you want to make your point, find some stats about children kidnapped from their own homes by strangers. It is that one feature that made the Klaas case and this one so unusual. Just pulling rape figures off the net says nothing about this particular circumstance.

Last Sunday's newspaper, I'm looking at the inserts from local department stores. Thumbed through and checked the children's apparel (I have 5 grand-kids). I could not believe my eyes. In this ad, the model couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 years old. She wore a fitted skirt that had a sheer overlay, a tight fitted, low-cut top, that just barely covered her navel, and sandals with 2.5 inch heels. Unbelievable.

Smacking myself for assuming..when golitely said 2 out of however many in san diego..I was thinking/assuming she was referring to abduction within the home. (which was the focal point of the statement that I apologized for wrt:the statistics.) (---how was that? ;-)

We all know statistics are just that statistics and must be delineated exactly for any value...

I noticed the makeup on the young girl Tso or whatever and it disapoints me..

I didn't follow the ramsey case too much because it seemed the investigation was bungled from start to finish and full of bad data..however I found it odd that people would dress their kids up like adults and put them in beauty contests at such an early age..I always thought children should enjoy being children and not have to face competition and disappointment at such an early age, they have the rest of their adult lives to do that...

Hopefully some good will come out of this horrific crime and people will spend more time and attention to their children and criminals will realize in this day and age of scientific evidence the odds are that they will get caught..things that are up and coming include the satellite pics (like the cia had on oj-supposedly) as well as the normality of security cameras everywhere...imagine if that burglar alarm had been audible, someone might have been caught before they could finish what they started(unless thye were already in the home and them we would know that!) I wonder if the VD's have the system monitored now, I noticed they changed the garage door lock back...

But if he is guilty, I'll bet dollars to doughnuts this case will be studied by criminologists and forensic psychologists for decades to come.

and I'll bet dollars to donuts that the prosecution has some shrink tell us why he did it and the defense has one that tells us why he couldn't have done it...lol......

Your statement that children abducted from the home is "not unusual" cannot be supported by the facts. It is even considered unusual for strangers to abduct children from any place at all. (You know, it's not such a bad thing to admit it when you're wrong. I do it all the time. It's good for the soul. And in truth, no one can be right all the time, except the One Who has since risen to be with His Father.)
