I think smokers should sue under the disabilities act and if they win force every company in the country to install adequate facilities for their smoking. I would die laughing if that ridiculous law could be put to use poking a stick in the eyes of all the self righteous puritans who insist smoking is only a little less offensive than infanticide.

Smokers end up using less health insurance because they shave off 5-10 years of thier life. Old age care is incredibly expensive. Very true, but most people are retired by then, so the companies do not care. By the same token, companies love hiring gays because they have no expenses for children, family ties, etc. This attitude suddenly changes in the mid to late 40's when gays begin contacting AIDS in high numbers and are no longer useful.

But she could do without the lectures that come when she returns. She could try what I did when a stranger came up to me, burning one outside the buiding, and told me I shouldn't smoke:
"My grandfather lived to be 100 years old," I replied.
"Did he smoke?"
"No, he just minded his own damn business."
Kinda threw him off.

That being said, I've often thought that having a "smoking section" in a restaurant is like having a "peeing section" in a public swimming pool.
Still, if someone wanted to start a "smoking only" restaurant and clearly advertised that fact, I don't think the nico-nazis should go ballistic. Some of the world's heaviest smokers are in Germany, precisely because of the legacy that Hitler was such a nico-nazi, among his other faults.

You call me a "nanny state nico-nazi" because you have been convinced that I don't like smoke because I am concerned about YOUR health. I'm NOT concerned about your health & I don't care if you smoke yourself to death. If thats what you want to do I'm all for it. I will defend your right to smoke yourself to death..... just NOT in my room.

Can someone please explain what this article is doing in a newspaper. "Smokers take smoke-breaks."
Pardon my French, but, NFS.

spoken like someone who needs a smoke break - before you flame, a former pack and a half a day smoker, who lets friends smoke in my car (not my house, wife would object and I care less about the smokers feelings than bearing the brunt of my wife's displeasure - it's all about choices, ain't it?) and listen to a lot of live music (which mostly happens in bars where smoking is permitted).

What happens when you want to come into MY room but don't want me to smoke? Does property rights trump all or does the state tell me that I can't because YOU MAY want to come in.
To: Ditter
Didn't call you a nanny stater. It may have been unintentionally implied. I said that nanny staters stink worse in MY nostrils.
If the thought police uniform fits, however.
To: Just another Joe
If you are smoking in your room & I know it ahead of time.......... I'm NOT coming in. Lots of us out here having been going out of our way (for years) to avoid you & your smoke. Its getting easier & easier to do. ****smile******

If you are smoking in your room & I know it ahead of time.......... I'm NOT coming in.That's pretty much all we are asking.
The state/federal/county/municiple govts don't seem to want to allow that.
Its getting easier & easier to do. ****smile******
You're right there. I don't know that I would smile just yet though. I might want to wait and see if they DO come after one of my likes next.
To: Hila
Avoid smokers. There are not many places left for them to go. It should be easy.
To: all
Must depart now to make a drive home. (Working out of the main office.)
Will debate/rebutt later this evening.
To: Just another Joe
Well...that's almost correct.
Some people just need a "crutch" that helps their willpower kick into high gear.

This thread reminds me of a staff meeting in the early days of the smoking-nazi era (95?). A frothing-at-the-mouth anti said "they should just send all smokers to the moon". I replied that it wouldn't work, because someone would quit, and they would have to relocate the smokers again!
To: dmz
Actually, my smoking consists of one cigar a day which I don't inhale and can do without. What bothers me is the holier than thou attitude of the non smokers. You'd think smokers were worse than child molesters to here it from them.
