How could so many Republicans be so wrong about the effects of mass Latino immigration on the future of the Republican Party? And be so pro-illegal alien amnesty?
Their insistence that Latinos eventually will vote Republican reminds me of the Marine Colonel in the movie Full Metal Jacket. To paraphrase him: "Inside every Democrat Immigrant Latino voter is a Conservative Republican dying to get out".
Latino's are a natural fit for the Republican party, they are cultuarlly conservative, but all you do is push them away with your xenophobic rantings and the demo's exploit that.
Now let's look at what I'd call a typical 'mezzican. Ask 'em what's important to them and the usual answer is "freedom for my family".
Who goes to the trouble to knock on their door? Usually early 20's from the nearest college young Democrat club.
........which is why those registered Independent in Arizona include a big bunch of ex Republicans.
In my experience in Arizona.
I do not think Sanchez can be taken lightly. If a black, Ron Kirk, wins the senatorial nomination on April 9, the Democrats will have a black-brown-white slate, consisting of senatorial candidate Kirk, gubernatorial candidate Sanchez, and lieutenant governor candidate John Sharp, who nearly beat Perry for lt. gov. in 1998. There is a theory that Sharp helped to assemble this Democrat team so he can be guaranteed nearly 100 percent of the minority vote in the fall. Republican lt. gov. candidate David Dewhurst also ran impressively against weak opposition in the primary. Even if Kirk is not nominated, there will still be nearly unanimous black support for the Democrat ticket from the Senate seat to the justice of the peace positions.
I think the GOP is much too lackadaisical in TX for its own good. "Everyone" just presumes that Perry will win because he "leads in polls." This is potentially dangerous. Am I the only one who senses such danger? And even Republicans are already conceding that they will not likely do well in the races for the U.S. House in TX because Democrat federal judges drew the lines to favor Democrats.
"With equal pleasure I have often taken notice, that Providence has been pleased to give us this one connected country, to united people, a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same lanuage, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs, and who, by their joint counsels, arms and efforts, fighting side by side throughout a long and bloody war, have nobly established their general Liberty and Independence."federalist 2Jay, John

Because their minds have been so infected with politically correct filth they believe that to do otherwise would make them "racists."
Also, anyone who takes the problem of illegal immigration and the problems it brings in its wake seriously and tries to do anything about them will be stigmatized as "opportunistic," "racist," "xenophobic" or whatever. I don't know enough about Pete Wilson to judge what his motives were, but it might be an interesting test case for this editorialist to ask himself which measures to cope with immigration he or she would support and under which circumstances, rather than tar anyone who tries to do anything to deal with the problem as bigoted or demagogic.
But Republican outreach efforts among Mexican-Americans might bear fruit. We will have to put up with a lot of fruitless debate and vituperation on this subject so long as the ancestry, ethnicity and tribalism are seen as the crux of the issue. Maybe a Latino Republican governor could raise questions and put through policies that the non-Latino whites couldn't. Or maybe Mexican-American Republican voters could put Democratic officeholders in a bind if they try to ignore immigration issues.
ATTENTION GW BUSH! Stop Kissing Butt! You're wasting time on this group. Why Aren't You Going After Black American Voters!?!
The answer is in the article:
That all changed with the administration of Pete Wilson, the Republican governor who stupidly decided to exploit the state's xenophobes and bash immigrants. When the conservatives not only stop bashing minorities but disassociate themselves from those who do that, we will see masses of minorities --- Blacks, Jews, Latinos -- - joining the ranks.
Unfortunately, judging even by the numorous posts on FR, bigotry is widespread among the conservatives. Well, we have only ourselves to blame.
I was one of those supporters of Prop 187 because I, along with most Californians, could see what the invasion was doing, and resented having to pay for it in the form of increased taxation, crowded schools, crowded medical facilities, crowded welfare offices, crowded roads, crowded prisons, and seeing formerly clean towns turn to slums. Since then it has only gotten worse.
Why must we support Mexico? Most people have enough trouble paying their own bills without being FORCED to support other families of non-citizens?
Our government is hypocritical because it refuses to enforce our already existing immigration laws, it allows big business to hire laborers for half the price of American workers, bringing down wages and putting American workers out of work because they can't afford to work for five bucks an hour. Americans don't want to live fifteen people to an apartment, why should they? Why are illegal aliens even allowed to collect welfare? From what I understand, it is against the law, another law that is not enforced.
When false documents can be bought for fifty bucks on any street corner, and these documents can be used to collect everything America has to offer its citizens, why would our government be putting out the red carpet, come one, come all?
Who will pay for these millions of people when the pro-illegal alien crowd takes over state government? Ask a Mexican American who is a citizen, they don't like it any more than we do, but our hands are being tied behind our backs by a President and a Congress who don't care what we think.
The do not call it the stupid party for nothing..common sense and a knowlege history should have clued them in..but they remain clueless
Why are so many so bent on making white people a minority in the United States?
It appears to me that, following the lead of G.W. Bush, Republicans care more about "cheap labor" for their businesses and pocketbooks than they do about either their country or their party. There was a time when I thought Republicans were only misguided about these Immigrant Democrat voters. But with the loss of California to Democrats and soon to be lost Texas, I am convinced that support for the third world Immigrants is deliberate. However, the real blame for this situation goes to all those Republican voters whoe refuse to elect pro-American conservatives.

Money, Money, Money. They obviously live for the moment with no thought or care about tomorrow. The Stupid Party is about to become the Extinct Party.
