W is headed towards one term, if he didn't learn the lesson the Dems learned on Nov 5th that if you try to act too much like the other party your message gets lost and the base stays home. He has yet to cut government anywhere but he keeps offering tax cuts and new unemployment benefits. Somethings got to give, but than again I'm one of those that think the GOP has abandoned the idea of smaller government. And if they give in to the race hustlers over Lott it all but dooms Bush to one term. If you play in the middle of the road you get hit by both sides.

I want to know when it became "conservative" to simply hold the line on spending and taxes??? I always thought conservative meant cutting spending and lowering taxes, making everyone less dependant on government.

According to this new definition:

Conservative = same taxes, same spending

More conservative = slightly lower taxes, slightly lower spending (with some rearranging of spending priorities)

Even more conservative = even lower taxes, lower spending

Most conservative = very little to no taxes, hardly any spending (except on defense, infrastructure, and law enforcement - might be able to finance via tariffs alone).

Complete and utter status quo has become a definition for "conservative." What a crock.
