WASHINGTON -- When President George W. Bush meets with Mexican President Vicente Fox next week, liberalizing U.S. immigration policy will not be on the agenda, much to the chagrin of Mexican officials.

While immigration advocates hope to at least get a sign that the United States is ready to resume negotiations on the policy, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle who are close to the issue expect Bush to be vague and general.

No ---of course not ---we should keep in mind that lesson too. What happens when you allow in too many people who prefer to live under another flag and in another culture. The Indians are another example of a people who didn't control their borders.

It is at least ostensible that Fox's idea of tending to his own herd is to dump the least intelligent, least capable welfare- addicted people on us to take care of.

This is getting ridiculous. Fox and Mexico are trying to dictate American immigration policy.

Take a flying leap you Fox. If Bush grants anymore amnesties him and the Republican Congress are finished politically. No one wants this.

I wouldn't say that though ---a lot of the ones leaving are the most ambitious and most capable. I think they're the ones leaving legally for the most part though. As condition deteriorate, more and more try to leave ---that really isn't helping things over there. It seems he's getting rid of the ones who at least might like to be middle class so they can keep the elites and the servant class, but that isn't good in the end.

Would you want a president who didn't care anything about the opinion of the American people? Who didn't respond to objections from them? I hope he does take what Americans want into account so that he doesn't just take orders from Fox

Uh I wasn't the one constantly posting the articles or replies to threads with bombastic hyperbole about Bush's policies about immigration.

Maybe you should take a look in the mirror.

I thought the part about Marxist Castaneda and his dealings with the unsavory Loretta Sanchez was of particular concern.

I have not said much in criticism of Bush ---I'm not sure if sometimes he's not given bad advice.

You know I was going to take that quote of hers out and put in my response because I thought the same thing. Is this the future of the US? American politicians answering to their bosses in Mexico?

Ah yes, I see the tactic. You all are going to take "credit" for this, even though Bush has stated that there would be no blanket amnesty.

Your game is very transparent, IMHO.

Speaking of games Dane, your posts are among the most transparently dishonest on FR.

Time and again you play your "No Blanket Amnesty" schtick, usually as straw man, but this time as false dilemma. Who do you think you're kidding?

"No Blanket Amnesty" is nothing more than Bush Administration spin and damage control.

Let's look again at the subterfuge... Estimates of illegals currently squatting in the United States range from 8 million to 13 million. Let's take the low number. An Amnesty for 7.5 million ("undocumented," or "non-regular," or "uninspected," etc.) aliens could be granted, and Bush would still be technically not lying, because a "blanket amnesty" would be for all illegal colonistas..

President Bush's "No Blanket Amnesty" is a Clintonian promise in spirit, because it's an attempt to conceal his true goal, which is an Amnesty by another name (even more dishonesty) for millions of illegal aliens.

A promise of "no blanket amnesty" is an empty shell, as has been explained to you whenever you show up parroting the talking points.

Yeah right, and the sky is orange in your world.

What I was commenting about was the chicken little attitude taken by many of "immigration is the end of us all" on threads, saying Bush was a Fox "stooge". He isn't.

You were part of the witch hunt and you know it, so please lay off the platitudes.

Payback is a bitch isn't it.

No you usually save your bombastic hyperbole and insults for the posters of these threads who "dare" to speak out against the invasion of our country by millions of illegal aliens. Here's a thought: move to Mexico and help the hard working migrants down there achieve their better life. We have all we can do now to hold on to ours up here.

It wasn't widely reported, if at all, but Bush said at that press conference last week, that the vote in Congress wasn't for "blanket amnesty." He also said "the American people do not want blanket amnesty."

Even before Sept. 11, liberalizing immigration policy was seen as a tough political sell. But since the terrorist attacks, immigration critics have been emboldened.

Well, I am not sure whom they mean. I have been an outspoken foe of "liberal" immigration since college--debated the issue on the College radio station--and never felt the need to pussy foot around it. The old National Origins system, in effect from 1924 to 1965, made sense. What we have had since does not. (See Immigration & The American Future.)

I'm all in favor of a new guest worker program. Terrific idea and one we should implement as soon as possible.

The problem is the 14th Amendment. Any children born to such "guest workers," would automatically be American citizens.

"The Mexican government is very lenient with the United States," Mexican congressman and opposition party member Marti Batres said recently…………….

What is wrong with this b!tch? Where does she come off thinking we should prostrate ourselves before the almighty taco and thank them (Mexico) for not being more punitive. Sounds like a tongue lashing at least and a threat at most.
Just what percent of the Mexican population do these people really expect us to absorb? Don’t we already house approximately 15% - 20% of Mexico?
