Maybe if they opened the priesthood to nuns ,,,

I believe there is a shortage of nuns too. The church simply has to end the celibacy requirement, period. If it doesn't, it's finished. So, eventually they will permit priests and nuns to get married. The demographics are against celibacy. Look at the average age of a priest or a nun. Look at where it was 10, 20, 30, etc years ago. Eventually the church will have to face reality. It has to. Or it will die.

Think twice about nuns. Years ago in the Philadelphia area, NUNS were arrested. By DAY they were sweet, loving "Christians". By night they were prostitutes. You see, from the perspective of ANY gender what Catholicism is requiring is unnatrual and will cause the problems you see.

It's also NOT Biblical to require celibacy. God knows what He is doing by NOT requiring this to serve Him. It's man that insists on rejecting His word. When ever man rebels against God and His teachings, there is ALWAYS a negative consequence. Still, people will fight His word and label you a "basher" and a "hate monger" since they too, reject Him and look to foolish men for what to believe.

I was graduated from a Catholic Boys Only HS in 54. WE had 20-22 sections in senior, junior and sophomore grades. Priests were the instructors in all but about 5 or 6 sections and also were the administrators. They opened up an additional HS when I was a senior also staffed by priests

Today in those same schools there are only 10 priests total and most over 60

Unless there are changes the Church is going to die

I believe the shortage of nuns has more to do with the greater availability of careers for women these days. In the 'old' days, in order to get a good education and become a 'professional', many women went into the convent. They became teachers, nurses, doctors, etc. Then as these positions became available for women across the board, many women saw less need to join the convent. Another reason why there are fewer nuns is for the same reason there are fewer priests. Many religious orders for women became caught up with feminism and got more politically active than religious. Many of these communities began to be hotbeds of dissent and young women who felt they had the call to serve God looked at these 'communities' and decided they weren't what they wanted. I also suspect there was some of the lesbianism tied up with the feminism, and the straight girls just didn't want to bother.

It works the same in the seminaries as it does in the convents. Those Dioceses and communities for men and women religious which are FAITHFUL to the Church's teachings are overflowing with people who have heard a calling from God. It is those which have turned away or worse, are actively FIGHTING God's teachings that are LOSING vocations everyday! So in that respect, I'd be glad for the Church to get rid of the priests AND nuns who are teaching against what the Church teaches because I also believe God will raise up faithful priests and nuns in the numbers we need if we are willing to be faithful to HIM!
