11:44 PST HOUSTON (AP) -- After less than an hour of deliberations, a jury spared Andrea Yates from death row Friday and sentenced her instead to life in prison for drowning her children in the bathtub.
To: Republic of Texas
I agree. Living with a bunch of tough mean women in a penitentiary will sober her up quick. She will prolly find a way to kill herself if she doesn't get her head back on straight. Even if she does and finally really realizes (if she doesn't already) what she did to her kids, she might still kill herself. What a miserable business.
To: chance33_98
She won't last a year in prison.

chance of parole after 40 years...that's wen she is first eligible.
To: sinkspur
Maybe she could get out then. You're pretty much looking at life without parole for all practical intents and purposes here.

Welcome to hell on earth, Andrea.

She's run out of children to kill...
Voila....does not constitute a danger.
To: goldstategop
Yes. With NO chance of parole. You're wrong. We don't have life without parole in Texas.

That's 8 years per kid

CNN - Russell Yates will speak to reporters LIVE in a minute...
To: mystery-ak
She will be 77.
To: Howlin
She'll have that long long long time to think about what she did to her kids.

There are times when I would celebrate when a killer is put to death. This isn't one of them. This is a very sad case, involving a horrible crime committed by a woman who was sick in the head. No joy in her sentence for me even though it was necessary.

Crap...now we have 40 years of candlelight vigils and liberal leftist panderings to look forward to....
This was as much a sentence for us as that evil bitch.
I would have much prefered the death penalty, with its inevitable crescendo of whining and bitching, culminating in an asanine liberal slop fest....and then her memory drifting into obscurity as the crisis whores found another issue to prostitute...GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
To: Oldeconomybuyer
And I fully expect her husband to wait for her.
To: Terriergal
she won't be in the general population.
To: Oldeconomybuyer
Oh, well...I would have gone for death myself, but it was their call to make. Whether it was death, life or an insanity verdict, she was almost certainly going to live longer after this than any of the kids did anyway.
