WASHINGTON - The Democratic-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee voted along party lines Thursday to kill the nomination of Judge Charles Pickering to the appeals court, handing President Bush a stinging defeat in a racially-charged confirmation battle.
In a series of roll calls, the panel also snubbed Bush's request to allow a vote in the full Senate on Pickering, a 64-year-old Mississippian with more than a decade on the bench.

Time to take back the Senate! Let's start in my homestate by defeating Biden in the fall election! It's time to continue the offensive Bush! Take your case to the American people! Tell them that the Democrats are the ones who are REALLY mean-spirited, and that they have undermined America's security. "Of course you realize, this means war!"

I am noticing that suddenly the media is preoccupied with the war? When the war was GOING ON -- they only taked about Enron. Now ABC, NBC, and CBS evening news had entire shows about the war -- no mention of Pickering -- no mention that Lott basically threatened the Senate to reform the Judiciary Committee.

The way the rules are set up, a nominee first has to make it out of committee. Then theres a vote by the full Senate. Daschle and Lott have an agreement that allows USSC nominees to have a floor vote, regardless of how the committee votes.

There will be very few judicial nominees out of this committee IMHO until we TAKE BACK THE SENATE!Don't you get the plan? This is good. It teaches Republicans a lesson. The Libertarian Party did the nation a favor when they knocked out Ensign in 1998 and Gorton in 2000. Now if the Libertarian Party can help Democrats take back the House, we will be even further ahead in restoring our freedoms.

Orrin Hatch almost grew a spine last week when him and Leahy squabbled for a bit about a deal gone bad

Aren't the Democrats the ONLY ones to not let a nominee make it to the floor? Bork, Pickering..and someone else? They were the last to do it, back in '91 to one of Daddy Bush's. The Republicans never did it to Clintons, they sent Ronnie White to the floor, where he was voted down.

Don't forget Schumer, the biggest Clymer of them all, who's now said on the record that the committee won't approve conservatives for consideration by the full Senate. The man's a total fascist with a Hitler complex. He's the most dangerous man in the Senate.

BTW, how have you been DOAIJV? I saw that you got in a little skirmish last night on that Bush thread. Hehehe, you're a tough ol' babe.I'm a tough YOUNG babe, oldvike!!
Heck, my dad called Iwo Jima a "skirmish" - see any scratches on me? ; )

Get it straight! For Feinstein, Feingold, Kennedy and Leahy this is payback time for white, anglo-saxon protestant males.

They also helped Cleland get elected. I think he won by only a few hundred. (probably dead Dems voting) and the Libertarians got 3,000 votes.
Nothing against Libertarians. They are more in tune over all with the Constitution, but every-now-and-then, you'd like for them to keep the Dems out by voting GOP

There's clearly no mandate from the American people to stock the courts with conservative ideologues so if the White House persists in sending us nominees who threaten to throw the courts out of whack with the rest of the country, we have no choice but to vote 'no'," said New York Sen. Charles Schumer. The Marxist/Socailist have final won and have shown there colors!
To: skeeter
agree time for an interim appointment.
But Bush won't do it. He's a weakling like his father.
To: Reagan Man
Taking back the Senate should be the #1 priority for all republicans and conservatives this November. Without Republican control of the Senate, Bush has little, if no chance of getting conservatives on the federal judiciary. That includes the USSC too!Worth placing emphasis on, in bold.
To: Timesink
Popular with the constitutents is key though. She can be Enemy #1, but if popular, not going to get beat.
Thanks for info
