Cheryl Bacon on Dennis Prager [Another Red Cross "Apology"]
Dennis Prager Show as herd on KRLA | March 14, 2002 | Dennis Prager

Posted on 03/14/2002 8:52:17 AM PST by Avoiding_Sulla

On going controversy. 9:20 A.m - 10:00 A.M.

Teresa Losario (sp?) of Sacramento Chapter of Red Cross was flushed out when she heard Prager say "bureaucrats issue statements" because they're afraid to be challenged in public.

If true to form, this will likely be rebroadcast by KRLA between 6 & 7 P.M. tonight.

Prager has been calling for someone to be fired from Orange County Red Cross.

Is that enough?

My dad, WWII vet, said the same thing about the Red Cross, but I don't remember what the details were. But he had NO USE for the Red Cross. What exactly do you know about the Red Cross during WWII?

Well, my folks told me about how the RC never passed the news to my dad when us kids were born (they were supposed to do that). But what always made my dad and his fellow vets the angriest was how RC would collect money to provide food & coffee for the men, and instead, would sell it to them.

I still remember the stories at meetings from many men of how they would be handed a donut and coffee by one RC volunteer, and be told how much they were to pay by another. And, if they did not pay up, it would be grabbed away from them.

Everyone I heard from had stories about how the RC was a phony charity. Salvation Army and USO were the only ones anyone said good about.

I bet we could get a huge thread going with horror stories about the RC -- not just during wartime, but during disasters here at home. Ask survivors of hurricane Andrew...heck, volunteers from the Mennonite Central Committee did more, faster, and without charge -- and they got no mention in the newspapers. But then, the MCC did not do it for publicity. (Gee, I can't believe I am saying good things about MCC, considering the general leftist bent of many of their leaders.)

Glad to have done it.

After hearing that short clip from the kid's performance -- even over my junkie AM radio -- I got choked up. Even the second time I heard it.
And that was when I realized why the Red Cross leaders wouldn't want that heard in their presence.
Some one of them might get choked up or (horrors) break out in tears, and that would be a dangerous show of weakness in a sophisticated crowd like theirs.
Showing a smidgen of patriotic nostalgia might cost 'em a lucrative 6 figure salary with perqs.
One moment of humanity and they're outa there.

I've been told I'm an incurable optimist.

I am done with Red Cross (any manifestation of it) forever.
It goes right down the scumbag toilet along with United Way as far as I am concerned.
And I will relentlessly remind my family and friends how I feel about these organizations and why I feel that way.

I hope others will join me.
