President Bush held his fifth formal press conference today and played hardball with the press core and the Senate, especially concerning the Pickering appointment. Bush also hosted a few St. Patrick Day events today, including the New York Fire Department Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Corps. Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern was also in attendance, and presented President Bush with a basket of shamrocks. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: The Entire Transcript of Today's News Conference
I saw some clips from "Journeys with George" on NBC Dateline tonight. It was pretty good. At one point the reporter says she wants to ask him a serious question unrelated to politics. This prompts the following exchange:
"Sooo, what kind of tree are you?"
"Well, I'm not a tree....I'm a BUSH!"
LOL! It seems to focus on the more lighthearted moments, and he seems just the same to me as I've always thought he was...humorous, kind, and a LOT quicker than the press thinks. (As was demonstrated again today at the press conference.)
With leaders of Ireleand...
TOO funny! I'm headed over to C-SPAN to check out today's press conference...
The part I saw was where Daschle was complaining about the setup of Homeland Security; that nobody's telling him what is happening, whine whine! Is it Jim Cameron who is the reporter on Fox? (we just got the channel last week so I'm just now learning these folks names.) Well after showing Daschle complaining that nobody's telling them anything and that Ridge is the one in charge and should come before Congress, the reporter comes on and totally refutes what Daschle just said, and does it in a very straightforward way. Sir SuziQ and I just howled and said we couldn't imagine Little Tommy getting shot down like that on CBS! Then they showed a clip from Bush saying that no way does Ridge need to come before Congress; he's part of the Executive branch, and because of that comes under the aegis of the Executive Branch, and Bush said he would protect that privilege.
Pres. Bush was SO mad about the INS thing, I thought he was going to explode! He couldn't understand how that mixup could have happened, and so he's having Ashcroft look into and clean up the INS. About time, I'd say!
Thank you for the daily dose, rintense. You just have no idea how many of us look forward to this every night (I'll bet thousands). It just seems that my night in not complete without the dose. It is a great sleeping aid, to know who he is in the White House and how he is doing.
I saw most of the press conference. He seemed very relaxed and assured of himself. Took it to the Senate on the Pickering nomination. The press asked some really dumb questions - about the Catholic Church, etc. but he handled it all well and even had them laughing a bit. He was PISSED about the INS thing, for sure.
President Bush's Press Conference on CSPAN now! Thanks for the reminder, rintense, as I missed it this afternoon.
On another note, I wish Dubya had the good sense not to appear with a terrorist like Gerry Adams. It really is obscene.
