Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford just told Rita Cosby he will run for the Senate. Can he take away another Republican seat?
Only if the candidate was a vegetarian as well. I wonder how much "traction" Ford would get in a black pantsuit with a brocolli in hand? He's already got the requisite measure of wit and humor to come across as a lesbian. All he needs to do is husk up his voice a tad and I'm sure he could pass.

The question might boil down to how many "people" vote. With TN's freewheeling ID/DL policies -- known and admired throughout the islamist world -- I gotta wonder how many "voters" will be made of pure chad.

HE NEVER SHUTS UP and always drags what should be a a simple once sentence statement into into a thirty minute (minimum) filibuster. The RNC needs to be sure this left-wing Dumbocrat Clymer gets stomped into oblivion at the polls this November.
His opponents are bound to bring out Ford's record of looney-tune behavior.
Although I am not familiar with Maryland politics; I believe you are correct. I was referring to the support for Keyes among conservatives in the most recent Presidential primary here in east Tennessee. I apologize for not making that as clear as I should have. :-)
Not as hard as Blackburn, Bryant, or either of my two cats would. This topic came up on a CONSERVATIVE talk radio station here in east Tennessee this morning. There was absolutely NO SUPPORT for 'Lamar!' among their callers this morning. A number of them said they would stay home the first Tuesday in November. 'Lamar!' will NOT motivate voters at all. Period.
When it comes to the 'poorly-informed female voters'; looks TRUMP record every time. Look at the number of them that supported Clinton because they thought he was SO good-looking. Rapist? Yeah, maybe...but that smile..! (Swoon...) Needless to say, I am NOT referring to the politically-astute ladies here at FR.

I don't know anything about Bryant, having never even seen a picture of him to my knowledge. Based on what has been posted here, I am indifferent as to which one gets the nomination, although my gut tells me that Alexander has better name recognition in the State and probably would win.
If Bryant would defeat Ford just as easily, then it's possible he's a better choice. Either way, keeping this seat in GOP hands is imperative.
I meant Any elected office including local, state, and federal. The last one to SUCESSFULLY hold public office was in 1905 as a senator which would have been appointed by the congress and not elected by the people would he have not?
Yes indeed you know very well who Ed Bryant is. We had a POTUS impeachment remember? Who were the House Managers? Was not one of them Ed Bryant of Tennessee? I believe in rewarding our leaders for their work. Ed Bryant did a job the man he is seeking to replace refused to preform. He actually tried to bring Bill Clinton to justice. Lamar has plenty in his closet. His wifes magical investments, bank failures as governor, insane education programs, SUPPORTING THE STATE INCOME TAX a very hot issue in this state, and in general has twice since office been rejected for public office. Lamar is another Don Taxquist and would as Thompson help secure more funding for Hillary Care in our state. I could go on but that's the basics of it. He would become the GOP's John Jay Hooker in Tennessee.
In Tennessee it is fact. Again I say look at fact in the Political Graveyard web site. No, actually Lamar is up against some pretty stiff compitition including his own past and record. Freeper GailA has some material you should take a look see at called Lamars Skeleton Closet. Who ever the White House Aide was that recommended Lamar Alexander should have done their research and reconsidered their choice before announcing it. My point is Bryant has a 100% Conservative record. Lamar at best will continue to support many of the very wastefull government programs many in this forum have been fighting to eliminate. That is if by some slim chance he gets elected. Why put in more of what is wrong with the GOP?
It's get's down right discouraging to see so many moderates cheering on the GOP sellout. Then they are the first to Boo Hoo when Conservatives say we've had enough we will not continue to support your destruction. Was it not the plan to put a GOP POTUS in and change the senate? Well? Wasn't it? What are we doing though? Ignoring Golden Chances to put true Conservatives in because some person in the White House and GOP leadership is as out of touch with Tennessee as it was with Califorina? That appears to be the case to me.
All that I will say about your post is that I hope that we Tennesseee Republicans can remain civilised in this race so that whoever wins the primary will not be so badly wounded that we hand a precious Senate seat to a 31 year old guy who will hang onto it for the next 30 years. If you think Alexander's education policy places too low a priority on home schooling or whatever, then that could be a campaign issue. If Alexander has receivd financial hlp from people that you do not approve of or in ways which will hurt him in the general election, then that could be an issue to debate as well. But I sincerely hope that you will not let passion to support one candidate blind you to the goal of electing a conservative Republican, which is what Lamar Alexander is.
