Whatever our faults, the metamorphosis mentioned in this article is taking place here, and if we don't want what happened in South Africa to happen here, we need somehow to change course.
The outcome of O.J. Simpson's trial, with one of the black jurors raising the right fist of solidarity at the announcement of the verdict is a perfect example of what this article addresses. I think it also applies to the Cincinnati riots, as well as others, where rioters basically got away with criminal behavior because of their skin color. To those who let people like Jesse Jackson and his gang speak for them, equality doesn't mean equality; it means getting even.
So you and others can worry about how things weren't fair for blacks in the past, whether here or elsewhere (personally, I think their conditions were deplorable) but what's at issue is our society, the destruction of which - such as what happened in South Africa - is not justified by past behavior.
