The current bill being considered to change the campaign election laws is patently unconstitutional, says Douglas Deffenbaugh, GOP candidate for United States Senate.
Mr. Deffenbaugh goes on to say, "This is a direct frontal assault by our government on our freedom of speech rights; it is the most egregious grab for power and attempt to silence citizens in the history of this country. A United States Senator needs to be a statesman and stand up to defend the Constitution in circumstances like these."
Mr. Deffenbaugh believes that we have reached this point because Buckley v. Vallejo was wrongly decided in 1976. The activist supreme court of the 1960s and 1970s went out of bounds when deciding the issues of prayer in school and abortion on demand. The liberal justices thereby opened the door that has allowed limitations on our political speech. Once the American people had swallowed those decisions, it became merely a matter of pushing the envelope a little further to achieve the situation we are faced with today.
The Constitution is absolutely clear about not allowing the regulation of political speech in the First Amendment. Mr. Deffenbaugh speaks to all conservatives, "We must rise up as Americans and demand that this unconstitutional bill be stopped. The very liberty of our country is at stake."
Like Bob Dole?
A question..... should your campaign fall short of winning the Republican primary nomination will you then support the party nominee as selected by the primary?
AMEN!!!!!!!

seems to me there is an oath of office requiring said elected official to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, AT ALL TIMES. if you're going to pick and choose when and if you'll defend the Constitution look else where for votes 'cause you aren't getting any from me.
A candidate has the cajones to say that something is actually UN-Constitutional, and that isn't Breaking News?!? :-)
....And I see you learned html as well. As we say in these parts, "HTML IS OUR FRIEND."
Best of luck!
Hey -- great idea! Let's get conservatives nominated in every state who could not possibly win a general election! Let's make Deffenbaugh an official FR cause a la California's Bill Simon!

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF GEORGE W. BUSH
Statement by the President
For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
March 20, 2002
Statement by the President
Like many Republicans and Democrats in the Congress, I support common-sense reforms to end abuses in our campaign finance system. The reforms passed today, while flawed in some areas, still improve the current system overall, and I will sign them into law.
The legislation makes some important progress on the timeliness of disclosure, individual contribution limits, and banning soft money from corporations and labor unions, but it does present some legitimate constitutional questions. I continue to believe the best reform is full and timely disclosure of campaign contributions.

The George W. Bush Lie
ABC News's This Week on January 23, 2000:
GEORGE F. WILL: I want to see if you agree with those who say it would be bad for the First Amendment? I know you're not a lawyer, you say that with some pride, but do you think a president, and we've got a lot of non-lawyer presidents, has a duty to make an independent judgment of what is and is not constitutional, and veto bills that, in his judgment, he thinks are unconstitutional?
GOV. BUSH: I do.
GEORGE WILL: In which case, would you veto the McCain-Feingold bill, or the Shays-Meehan bill?
GOV. BUSH: That's an interesting question. I - I - yes I would.
