ORANGE COUNTY, March 8, 2002 — The Sunday volunteer recognition program at the American Red Cross Orange County Chapter in Santa Ana, California, honors America both through the presentation of colors and in the music program.

The American Red Cross Chapter in Orange County and the Orange County High School of the Arts regret that we were not able to reach agreement on the music program with conductor Cherilyn Bacon. The dispute was over the music program and has nothing to do with patriotism. "God Bless America" is a wonderful song.

The event begins with the posting of the American Flag and the singing of "The Star-Spangled Banner."  The dispute centers only on our sensitivity to religious diversity, and a preference for a music program that would be inclusive and not offend different populations participating in this particular event.

Well, here's my letter.

Your position on the Orange County program is pathetic.

God Bless America and America the Beautiful don't refer to the Christian concept of God, nor the Jewish concept, nor Muslim, nor any other. I just refers to God. How can that offend when something like 95% of Americans believe in God? And by the way, if you read the entire lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner, IT REFERS TO GOD ALSO! HURRY, perhaps you can purge this offensive, exclusionary song from the program before it's too late!!!

Hey, presenting the colors (the flag) is bound to offend a tiny minority in the country (native Americans who believe their land was stolen, African Americans who view it as a symbol of oppression and slavery, etc.). How dare you do such despicable act as presenting the colors!!!!

Rest assured that I, and many others, will cease as of this moment to donate in any way to the Red Cross. I wouldn't be surprised that the new group of non-supporters is LARGER than the infinitesimal group of people that might be offended by God Bless America.

"IN GOD WE TRUST. BUT WE NO LONGER TRUST THE RED CROSS WITH OUR MONEY!"

Here is my email

RE: News Release: American Red Cross Statement Regarding Orange County High School Music Program on March 10, 2002

Hi,

I gave to the Red Cross after 9/11. I even sent something to all of my company clients urging them to give to the Red Cross and other organizations. The things that the Red Cross did after 9/11, or didn't do, made me ill. This latest anti-American garbage is the last straw.

Seems like the Red Cross does not think that GOD exists. OK by me. So you will not be too upset when I say that the Red Cross can go to hell. Since you don't see heaven I'm sure you see no hell.

And another thing, pointed out by a posting I saw on the Internet today. Our money says "IN GOD WE TRUST" on it. That being the case, it's obvious that the American dollar is not something the Red Cross wants. So you will never see another dollar from me. And you can bet I'll make sure that every time I get a chance, and I will get lot's of chances, I'll urge everyone to NEVER NEVER NEVER donate another dollar to your Godless organization.

Just an average american

Great message for the [Anti-]American Red Cross! I especially like your reference to replacing the emblem. Of course, those balwins will probably take that into serious consideration.

"why does religious diversity mean christians get shafted??"

You got it. You see, their not peace loving, gentle peopple like the Muslims and we certainly wouldn't want to offend them, now would we? To be a Christian is to be a bigoted hate monger. Why? Because the the teachings condemn much of what is elevated in social mores today. You are not allowed to disagree or act on God's teachings.

Oh My Gosh! The money I was going to donate to the Red Cross says "In God We Trust." I'll save them from having to send it back to me and instead donate it to Salvation Army.

LOL!!! Great line, Tennessee_Bob. best, bb.

Sure it exists. The ARC should merge with them, and they can jointly go to Riyadh for their funding.

What I find most interesting about the Red Cross is how much disdain many WW II vets have for them.

When I was in basic, our drill instructors told us about what a despicable organization the Red Cross (a Christian symbol, if there ever was one!) was, and how they charged for coffee and doughnuts in war time, while the Salvation Army was giving them away for free. When I got back home, I asked the officer who had sworn me in ( a real WWII hero with fifty missions over Europe, including Ploesti) and he confirmed that my drill instructors were absolutely correct. That was good enough for me and I have since considered them to be unworthy. I have since found out that they send bills to people they "help" during floods and other natural disasters. As for the ICRC, they are just as bad. First they want us to stop using cluster bombs in Afghanistan, putting our troops at risk. Then they whine about Camp X-Ray. As far as I'm concerned, if the Red Cross disappeared today, it would be a good thing for America.
