The Dems will pick a Sen. Edwards of Car.-Hil. Clinton ticket and will get swamped!

But seriously. It all depends on Bush's popularity in 2004. If it's low, expect Hitlery or some other relatively strong candidate. If it's high, on the other hand, I'd expect some Bob 'King of Food Stamps' Dole type, who'll be rewarded for his party loyalty all those decades, but who won't be expected to do squat. I'd expect that Senator Evita Evil will only go for a sure thing (in her mind!)

You said a mouthful...."I'm betting Hillary!, and I think she'll win if she runs. She's much more adept at cheating than Algore." -- I agree 100% !!!

I believe Hillary WILL be our first woman president in 2008. I think she will STEAL the election as JFK did, as LBJ did, as Bill Clinton did twice, as Al Gore tried to. She will steal it as she stole the NY senate seat, by hook or by CROOK!
No I do not want her to even be a pot scrubber or toilet bowl cleaner, but I do think she will become president. And we will ALL rue the day when we gave the gov. so much power through all these new "security" measures. Plus, she already got away with having all those FBI files, and should have gone to prison for just having ONE! It will be like hell on earth but she will win.....

Read HELL TO PAY and THE FINAL DAYS by Barbara Olson. I have almost finished THE FINAL DAYS. She spells out in detail how evil and corrupt the Clintons are! There is a whole chapter on pardons... many of them went to BIG TIME drug dealers and money launderers!!!! Shows Clinton priorities!!!!

Edwards wouldn't shock me, that's for sure. They need a Southern state to win. Hill.... I could almost feel sorry for trial lawyer Edwards. While I don't want him for a President, he's pretty young to be committing Arkancide.

Mel Carnahan. Hell, he won the Senate seat in Missouri!

Heck, why not? He represents one of the largest constituencies in the Democrat Party!

;-)

. So, will she, or won't she? IMHO, she's caught between a rock and a hard place, neither named Bubba. Hillary wants the nomination; 2004 is her one and only chance for the big prize. Before 9/11, she was laying the groundwork. </>

Good analysis and topic. But right now I'm wondering why you think 2004 is Hillary's only chance to win. I would think 2008 would be ideal for the Hill.

As for the Dem nominee in 2004.....hmmmmmm. I think it will take about a year before they hone in on someone. This is mostly because, as you aptly point out, Bush's popularity rating as projected by the 2004 elections will be the biggest factor in determining the Dem nominee.

If the Dems feel that indicators are that Bush's popularity is waning (or, indeed, does wane by 2003), they'll run their very strongest candidate. Which is, I don't know who.

I don't see Hillary playing in Peoria. Though I know she's got the big bucks the Dems can't possibly bribe EVERYONE in America. Those red states ain't gonna get bought is what I'm saying here.

Sharpton? Again...those red states.

Daschle? I don't see it though he'd certainly like it. Not up against Bush at any rate. Daschle might win if he were running against, say, Trent Lott.

Gore? The Dems want Gore like Superman wants kryptonite. The only way he'd get the Dem nod is if Hillary, Lieberman, Daschle, Gebhardt and maybe Richard Byrd all died.

Kerry's a possibility. He passes the big hair and attempt at statesman schtick. He's allegedly a war hero. In 2004, I think the Mass. angle will hurt him. This country's not looking kindly on liberals lately. Against a still-popular incumbent, Kerry would die a kind death.

I think your scenario of a Kennedy/Hollins ticket, or another equally as bizarre, to be very possible if Bush's popularity remains high. The Dems will have to find a Dole to plug the hole....a poet and didn't know it. They'll have to throw anyone out there just to put a name on the ticket.

Now if Bush's popularity should sink before 2003, something I doubt for even if they drop from their unbelievable heights I don't see the public, especially those pesky undecideds, just turning their back willy-nilly on a President who's led them well, unless some major scandal taints him. While the spirit of bipartisanship might finally die and everyone goes back to their political bent as usual, enough conservative Dems, independents, and "moderates" will remain loyal to Bush enough to not risk changing to a new President.

I see Lieberman as being the best Dem possibility for the nod, IF any Dem at all has a chance at beating Bush in 2004. Lieberman is playing himself well as the voice of sanity in the Dem party. Plus, I think the fact that ole Joe is Jewish would actually be a positive in the 2004 election. By that time, Israel will have been more or less established in the American mind as the "good guys" and even some RINOS might vote him in in a bow to extremely compassionate conservatism.

Don't discount the possibilities of a presidential illness or other top-level vacancy, either.

I'm not. VP Cheney is not exactly in 100% health. (Neither is McCain if the Democrats/Liberal Media want to run him again). I would also not rule out an assassination attempt on the President.

Hillary may not be as viable a Democratic Party choice if any of the Enron scandal fallout sticks to her.

It will stick to her as much as Whitewater, the Cattle Futures bribe, Travelgate, Filegate, Socialized Medicine, etc. etc. That is to say, I think it will be forgotten by the time campaigning starts.

And it would be a fellow Democrat in the best position to see that happen to her

Ah, but she still has all those FBI files and she knows how to use them ... How clean do you think her primary competition is going to be? They're Democrats.

With GWB holding a approval rating of 97%,today at the demorat national convention, rats decided that they would not run anybody for President. Al Gore was the overwhelming choice for VP. Political pros say Gore is a perfect fit with the top of the ticket. Bill Clinton was gloating after Gores nomination " This is a srong team that will continue my legacy"

We went through this ten years ago. The "scandal" was the reneging on the "Read my lips" campaign pledge. I don't see this issue being too different than W reneging on his campaign pledge to bring US troops home.

Tell me, if President Bush is really fighting a war on terrorism, why isn't Basilan and the Abu Sayyaf in the news every day? Is it really that much more important to bomb Muslims who thinking bad things about the US versus Muslim terrorists who are holding Americans hostage?

If/when/after GW vetos the Campaign F*ckup'ed Restriction Act, McCain will switch parties.

Hillary as Veep? Probably not yet.

Hillary in '08 is still my guess.

I stand by my last prediction -- it will be a Democratic governor from a southern state. Probably Barnes of Georgia.

I have to agree. The dems never win with senators (McGovern, whoozit, and whatshisface) but do win with small southern demorat governors (Carter and beezlebubba). Also, with W invincible, national democrats will put their cajones where their feet are and promptly drop out, just like in '92 when in the early primaries X41 also looked invincible.

As you may recall, no one had heard of beezlebubba at first either. It won't be a nationally known governor, or a powerful governor (Pataki's a repubbie, and greyout won't stand a chance).

Lets just pray that its not Easley of NC. That would be a horror story.

I don't know. Ol' Joltin Joe Lieberman hasn't come close to perfecting the art of lying, a must for major Dem candidates. Watching Joe prevacate for Al Gore was amost painful.

All Joe can do is rely on vast wealth redistribution schemes. Ergo, Joe will go the way of Bill Bradley.
