PRISTINA, Yugoslavia (AP) - An American peacekeeper has died of a gunshot wound at a U.S. military base in Kosovo, an official said Tuesday.
The body of Pfc. Gary S. Kalinofski, 21, was discovered Monday by fellow soldiers at Camp Magrath, 30 miles east of the province's capital, Pristina.
The cause of Kalinofski's death remained unknown, but did not result from any engagement with hostile forces, said Major James Crews, a spokesman for the U.S peacekeepers in Kosovo.
Authorities were investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, Crews added.
Kalinofski had served in Kosovo since November. He had been assigned to A Company, Task Force 1-32nd Infantry Regiment in Fort Drum, N.Y.
He is survived by his parents, who live in Fayetteville, N.C.
Some 5,000 U.S. soldiers serve as part of the peacekeeping force in Kosovo. In 1999, the United Nations took control of the southern Yugoslav province after an air campaign.

Yeah, it must've been those few 80-year-old Serbs remaining in the multiethnic Kosovo who should be held responsible for the death of the soldier.
You are one sick puppy.

Then there's a lot of "apes" around Vojvodina, not just those among KLA or some Muslim terrorists. As though you would want do de-humanize criminals of a particular nationality or religion, while almost idolize some others. Ah well...

Nor would it be remotely possible for your ilk to consider that it was most likely Serbs who did this. You know, the ones who don't like us for shutting down their little genocide operation? What genocide operation? Where is the proof? You exemplify stupidity pal. Is Clinton a relative of yours?

Ah bluester, since you seem to be so fond of the land grabbing Albanians of Kosovo (not to be confused with the Albanians of Albania), why don't you invite them to live in your wonderful 97% ethnically pure Slovenia? Or is that asking just a bit too much? Slovenia just might lose a chunck of it's vast territory to the newly formed "Dinaric Albanians".

I've seen a few suicides while on deployment. Take a large groups of people, put them into a crappy situation for a long time, someone is bound to snap sooner or later.

"HiJinx must be one of the local Gestapo."
You best retract that slanderous statement to HiJinx.
If you think I'm kidding check my FReeper profile page,
read the warning under the flags on the right hand side.
How dare you address a Vet like HiJinx in this manner.

I have no idea what happened to this soldier. I was just answering your question about suicide in the military.

I have nothing to apologise for. What I've said is true. Can you prove that I told a lie? If you can, be my guest. You have no right to silence anybody. Your militarism doesn't impress me. If you continue to threaten me, I will have to report you.

Retract your slanderous statement now!
You WILL NOT slander Vets who served on my watch!
You are free to disagree with him, but NOT FREE to call him a Gestapo and imply he is a Nazi.
I take it you do know about what the Gestapo did in WW II.

just because politically we won't admit that our "friends" the freedom fighting KLA have turned on us.They haven't, yet, at any rate. The whole "KLA killing KFOR soldiers" sounds real nice to some earcccc, but it doesn't stand up under scrutiny.
Just another battle in the disinformation wars.

HiJinx over reacted and made this baseless statement:
We got a live one....a true-blue cynicccc...dissin' vets, no less! If you have bothered to read through the threads I would kindly challenge you to find anywhere where HiJinx's statement is appropriate. By reading your statement on your homepage I deduce that you have some plan of action to back those words up...is this true?
I support our men an women in uniform but I will not stand for someone who feels that because of his/her service, that they somehow have the right to project a holier than thou attitude upon others. Your threats are nothing more than someone showing how they have more teeth than brains.
Good day.

Hey, since when is it OK to call someone a GESTAPO on FR?
Get a clue! Get a life!

It appears the KLA, or whomever in Kosovo is armed with anti-tank rockets and machine guns, HAS turned against the international police (including Americans) in Kosovo on occasion at least.
KOSOVO UPDATES FOR AMERICANS
>>>>>> PERSONAL SAFETY
Police work in most of Kosovo is about as dangerous as big-city policing in the USA. Kosovo is awash with military weaponry and UNMIK police officers have been attacked with machine guns, hand grenades, anti-tank rockets, and explosives (booby-traps & mines). Environmental hazards (industrial waste, really bad air pollution, & contaminated water) are a problem across Kosovo. The medical system was poor before the crisis and has not recovered so competent hospital treatment is available only at larger KFOR military bases. DynCorp will offer a number of vaccinations at the USA Training Center so get them all...
