I don't understand why you didn't write the word nigger out, instead of using *****. You're not calling the guy a nigger, you're commenting on what someone else did.

Besides, if the story is true that the man did attack his wife, and he was black, it seems only natural that he would be angry and call him a name. He chose to call him a nigger, someone else might have chosen to call him a slimy POS.

I don't see the press writing h***k*e, instead of honkie, and I don't see the press writing the "h" word, instead of honkie.

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong about it all, but it seems that people are too sensitive.

I didn't spell the word out because, it is my understanding, Jim doesn't want us to. I'm a news writer, and my practice, in accordance with the AP style book, has been to use dashes in place of most of the letters of that and other offensive or obscene words. For example, when a local judge was accused of using "the word," I had to quote him as saying, "It was just one n----r killing another n----r"

Personally, I agree that if that's what was said, that's what we should report, but if there are rules under which I'm expected to operate, I comply.
