I didn't spell the word out because, it is my understanding, Jim doesn't want us to. I'm a news writer, and my practice, in accordance with the AP style book, has been to use dashes in place of most of the letters of that and other offensive or obscene words. For example, when a local judge was accused of using "the word," I had to quote him as saying, "It was just one n----r killing another n----r"
Personally, I agree that if that's what was said, that's what we should report, but if there are rules under which I'm expected to operate, I comply.
okay, I just didn't understand the whole thing. I can see where Jim wouldn't want it used. The real newspapers though, I'm not so sure. They never use **** when describing names that other ethnic groups are called. Thanks for the reply.
