What the heck are you talking about? No, it's not a stumbling block for conservatives. I have no idea why apparently jews are not independent enough thinkers to be conservatives. They sure vote like a bloc. So so blacks. It's a croc. It's sad. Conservatives as a group are open to all races and religions and we don't need to pander to anyone. We just need to do a better job of getting our message, our beliefs and our side of the story out despite a liberal press.

Still, the problem with anti-semitism is that these sort of attacks are part of the whole anti-semitic agenda i.e. that whole Jewish Conspiracy which accounts for Jewish 'liberalism'.

Other than using un-PC terms, I simply do not see any attacks on religion in the quoted material. Polls, some of which have been cited above, demonstrate that without question that large majorities of the ethnic group Nixon referred to as 'Jews' have certain political and social views which are normally called liberal. This is a fact. For various non-conspiratorial reasons members of this ethnic group participate in occupations in the communications area in percentages far greater than their percentage of the general population. This is not only a fact, but it is a fact which is rightly taken as a point of pride by our Jewish fellow Americans. Should we or they be upset because they have fewer ditchdiggers proportionally than other groups? I don't think so.

The fact remains that this occupation has great power in society, and the fact that a controlling power in our political culture (i.e. the media), is so unrepresentative of the American people in its viewpoints is an issue of political concern. The fact that this unrepresentative power was accumulated without any sort of conspiracy does not change the fact that it was accumulated without any sort of public consent. To the extent that an unelected elite media controls the powers of the government it represents a illegitmate and dangerous authority.

I think that it is a stretch to suggest that nigger, etc. where common epithets coming out of public figures in those times.

We are talking about private conversations here, rudeboy, and if you don't believe that these epithets were common in private conversations in that era, it is a demonstration that you do not know what you are talking about in this area. Since I was born before the end of WWII, I am in a position to sadly assure you that such language was all too common at that time, and had been much worse in prior periods.

To me the only tennants to really hold on to are the right to self determination and the right to life of the unborn.

Back in Krgystan most of our citizens are Muslims and some of them make jokes about the Hindis being urine drinkers. Everywhere people hate people because they are different. We moved to America years ago and found the same biases here. It is best to make friends in this world not enemies.

There are many Catholics who believe the same thing ... Ted Kennedy comes to mind. However, liberal Catholics (in name only) don't represent me as a conservative Cathoic. The same can be said about Jews.

Jews hold these liberal positions in far more near-unanimaty than Catholics or any other group. (Even blacks are conservative when you ask specific policy questions) While Catholics break around 50-50 Dem v Republican, Jews are around 90 percent Dem. Don't deny the obvious - saying Jews aren't overwhelmingly very liberal is as credible as saying the pope is a protestant.

Are you quite confident that Nixon's and Graham's suspicion of Jewish liberal domination of the media would be contradicted by objective statistical analysis, then and now ? Surely it would not be deemed antisemitic if the numbers and influence of various ethnic groups on network broadcasting were made the subject of scientific study in institutions of higher learning ? What seems important is that, having said what he did, Graham felt he should make a public apology when his private remarks, made some 30 years ago, were made public. Is this not a clear indication that, although he likely holds the same views to-day, Graham chooses not to allow his private remarks to be used by those who are genuinely anti-semitic in their leanings ? Just as Nixon's own biases about these matters did not influence him when Israel was in danger of anihilation during the Yom Kippur War, and Nixon over-ruled his Jewish Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense to initiate the vigorous re-supply effort that allowed the Israelis to triumph in a war that the U.S. public wanted to sit out because of the economic effects of the expected Arab Oil Boycott that followed, and which did, indeed, send the U.S. economy into the dumper as Nixon no doubt knew it would. A good case could be made that Nixon, no mean judge of political realities, knowingly risked the likelihood that his possibility of surviving impeachment would likely evaporate owing to the calamitous economic downturn which, probably more than 'Watergate', caused him to be forced from office. After all, The Boy President managed to survive conviction in the Senate, after impeachment in the House, mainly because the economy was buoyant and this, more than anything else, is what determines the satisfaction of the U.S. public with any sitting president.
