San Diego County District Attorney Paul Pfingst confirming that the body found in the desert may be that of Danielle van Dam

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 27 –    District Attorney Paul Pfingst and Chief of Police David Bejarano held a news conference at 6:30 p.m. in the DA's conference room of the Hall of Justice, where they mentioned that some items on the body found match those described to be worn by Danielle van Dam.

San Diego County District Attorney Paul Pfingst says the body discovered is that of a 3- to 4-foot young girl with blonde hair.She was found on her back.

The child was also wearing a plastic necklace, similar to the one Danielle is seen wearing in thousands of "missing girl" flyers posted since her disappearance more than three weeks ago.

She was also wearing an earring that matched one of those investigators believe Danielle was wearing when she was last seen at her family's Sabre Springs' home.

Pfingst said despite earlier reports, the body does not appear to have been burned.

Authorities say it could take several days for to positively identify the body using DNA evidence.

I believe the police had to get a search warrant to search the house and RV. He took cushions from the RV to be cleaned at the dry cleaners after he came back from ?, and the smell of bleach was overwhelming to the police when they went into the RV. Why do you suppose he was cleaning that RV so thoroughly? And how do you suppose Danielle's blood got into his RV? Just curious.

it is told she was found in those clothes she wore when last seen. So, she did put on her clothes, before someone took her out of her bedroom. Why did she go? You can't put clothes on a child that age, if she is screeming and fighting. So she went with trusting this person! Something is wrong here!!

Huh?? She was found in the clothes she was last seen in because those were the clothes she was wearing when that sick SOB took her. What, was he supposed to buy her a change of clothes?? I don't understand your point.

Sounds like a fairly remote spot in Dehesa. I wonder what the weather has been like down there this past month. Tire tracks from Westerfield's vehicle? Soil type and vegetation debris on its underside matching that part of Dehesa?

So the body's just been sitting there for almost a month -- near the side of the road -- and no one's found it up until now but the body was still recognizable? that is not credible.

The body was not recognizable, that is why they said it would take a few days to be sure it is Danielle. The only recognizable thing were her clothes and necklace. He just dumped her off like a piece of trash, poor little thing.

I am sick and heart broken. This sweet little girl was just having fun and doing the things babies should. I wish she were my own shes so pretty. Oh, how sad sad sad. I dont understand the horrible people who can do these things. I don't know what makes a man kill a child. How can he have hurt this sweet little girl who was such a pleasure to watch as she played with her family and friends on TV?

The world is soo ill these days. There are so many sick people walking among us. This baby and all others deserve life. Imagine how the family feels. I feel so sorry for them all and the poor little girl.

It wasn't a well obscured disposal, but rash men do strange things, and he thought it was good enough, or the best he could do in a mad situation.

That's what I was wondering, why he didn't hide the body in a better spot. But as you say, he was probably panicking. I suppose, we'll have to wait a few days before the police can tell us how she was killed, how long she had been there, etc. An animal might possibly have gotten to the body, but we just haven't been told yet.

Being someone who is a neat freak and very orderly, why would he not dispose of any clothing that would have been in the VD's house or near Danielle... if he disposed of a child, wouldn't he dispose of his clothing?

Nobody's perfect, especially a man in a panic to hide the evidence. OJ was a bit of a neat freak as well, and look at the mess he made.
