The Russian people were converted to Christianity in 988.

The Orthodox Church has a Church Council made up of 13 Patriarches from all over the world. The Russian Patriarch is one of those 13 along with the Serbians, the Greeks, the Armenians, the Antiochians, the Georgians, the Alexanderians(Africa), Romanians, Bulgarians, Albanians and a few others. . The Ecumenical Patriarch is located in Istanbu,Turkey. He is first among equals of the other 12. All Orthodox Christians are in communion with each other as they are....the SAME CHURCH. It is the second largest Christian Church in the world...Roman Catholic being the largest.

The Russian Orthodox Church is made up of over 85% of the population of Russia. During the days of commie control, aproximately 60 million Orthodox Christians, including almost 1 million clergy were imprisoned or exterminated. They have regained most of the property taken from them by the commies. Restoration of Churches continue everyday.

The Church has a web site. and certain monasteries of the Church also have web sites. You can also find out about Orthodox Christianity on the web site: www.oca.org
