Group Goes After N.J. Fish and Wildlife Agencies for Expanding Deer Populations to Provide Living Targets for State Hunting Minority For Immediate Release: February 14, 2002 Contact: Matthew Penzer 757-622-7382 When a deer took out the entire front end of the car driven by two PETA anti-hunting campaigners, PETA saw redand it wasnt just the blood of the animal they believe was fleeing hunters guns. Today, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) faxed to Bob McDowell, director of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protections Division of Fish and Wildlife, and John Bradway, chairman of the Fish and Game Council, a notice of intent to sue them as a result of the collision late last November. PETA maintains that this accidentas well as thousands more that take place every year was caused by the states mismanagement of the deer population, which includes purposely increasing herd sizes in order to provide more live targets for hunters and so jeopardizes the well-being of people who use the roads. In 1999 alone, there were more than 14,000 deer-vehicle collisions reported in New Jersey. PETA argues that by placing the interests of hunters, who amount to barely more than 1 percent of New Jerseys population, above the safety of the more than 8 million New Jersey residents and countless out-of-state travelers who use the roads, wildlife agencies are violating the states constitutional mandate to provide protection and security to its people. PETA also opposes the fear, the disruption of herd members relationships, and the bloodshed suffered by the deer on grounds of cruelty to animals. "Motorists should be warned that New Jerseys highways arent safe, thanks to wildlife management programs that put the amusement of hunters ahead of the safety of drivers," says PETA Legal Counsel Matthew Penzer, who hopes that this suit will encourage others. "New Jersey wildlife managers are creating dangerous conditions for both people and deer."
They tried to,but the deer died before counsel could arrive.LOL
PETA is one of the reasons we are no longer a Superpower.
How do you purposely increase herd sizes? Prohibit the sale of deer condoms? Organize deer orgies? I don't get it?
I just love the irony of it. A PETA nut hitting a deer.
.
HUH????? ... is this for real???
I can't speak for Jersey but my mother lives in Philly and I can't tell you how many times her car has been hit by the deer there
They walk up and down the streets like they own the place ..
Neighbors have to put chicken wire around their trees because the deer eat them .. they can only plant certain flowers because the deer eat them .. they have to put up 6' fences around vegetable gardens because .. YEP .. the deer eat them
These people would LOVE to have the deer population controlled but can't because the idiots from PETA
Here's a suggestion .. Hey Peta trying suing yourself first because you are the cause of the mess
You know, I do realize that hunters get up early to go hunting, but I have never heard of one actually hunting at 1 am.
Perhaps we should investigate if the PETA Perps were indulging in grain fortification before hitting the deer. Let's sue them instead!
Obviously lack of red meat hinders proper brain cell growth!
What do they suggest for remedy? An increase in the hunting season?
They claim the state is increasing the herd? How do they do that? The only way I know of is by restricting hunting. Isn't that what PETA wants?
Then they should go after the deer's estate. That should get them some big bucks.
I for one am absolutely opposed to any demand that we stop hunting PETA members.
One has to consider how traumatized Mr. Shannon and Mr. Kelly currently are over the horrible Bambi killing of which they are blameless. They must be compensated for the loss of appetite, sexual dysfunction, sleeplessness and manic depression caused by the repeated nightmares they've experienced related to this tragic incident, through no fault of their own.
The unconsolable despair Mr. Shannon and Mr. Kelly have, realizing that the blood of the animal they believe was fleeing hunters' guns at 1:00am is on their hands, due directly to the callous disregard of the sanctity of animal life by the the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife, is a burden they cannot bear, and must be compensated for monetarily at taxpayer expense.
Oh, the horror, the horror . . .
