A London-based Muslim cleric was arrested by anti-terrorist officers on Monday amid allegations that he urged Muslims to kill Jews and non-believers, police sources said.
Abdullah el-Faisal, 38, was seized by Scotland Yard's anti-terrorist branch officers in a dawn raid at his home in east London on Monday.
Born in Jamaica and a convert to Islam, he had been touring Britain urging followers to kill Jews and non-believers, police said.
Members of parliament had called for action to be taken against the cleric after it was reported that video tapes carrying his message were on sale in Islamic bookshops in Britain.
"At approximately 7:00 A.M. officers from the anti-terrorist branch arrested a 38-year old man in connection with an allegation of soliciting to murder under the Offences Against the Person Act," a Scotland Yard spokesman told Reuters.
"He is being held at a central London police station," the spokesman added.
Soliciting to commit murder is a rarely used accusation, defined under the Offences against the Person Act as encouraging, persuading, endeavoring to persuade or proposing to a person to murder another person. The maximum sentence is life imprisonment.
Police also raided other addresses across London and, the Scotland Yard spokesman said.

' A London-based Islamic cleric who preaches death to Jews and infidels has been arrested and accused of inciting racial hatred.
Self-styled "sheikh" Abdullah el-Faisal was detained in a raid on his Ilford home yesterday by anti-terrorist officers after the discovery of audio tapes in which the Jamaican-born father of four - formerly known as William Forest - teaches schoolchildren to fire a Kalashnikov. He is being held on suspicion of "soliciting to murder".
One of the £2 tapes has a picture of the World Trade Center in flames on its cover. Another urges young extremists to wage a holy war against Jews and the West. In one tape-recorded speech el-Faisal tells an audience of British schoolboys: "All of you sitting down in front of me are soldiers. Is it sensible for you to be a soldier and you don't know how to shoot a Kalashnikov?"
The Islam convert has been under investigation by Scotland Yard for several weeks, following protests by MPs. El-Faisal, 38, addresses his followers at the Jagonari educational centre in Whitechapel every Saturday. His tapes are on sale at the Muslim Information Services bookshop opposite the Finsbury Park mosque.'
Why...this is just a Jewish plot to make the Muslims look bad. /sarcasm.

“NEFA Backgrounder: Abdullah al-Faisal: Extremist Ideologue with Influence in the West”
By Madeleine Gruen
SNIPPET: “The NEFA Foundation has released a new backgrounder on Abdullah al-Faisal; an extremist ideologue based in Jamaica who reaches supporters worldwide via the Internet, and through extensive international travel, particularly to Africa. Al-Faisal formerly resided in the UK, and was of such sufficient concern there that he was arrested for inciting murder, and accused of inspiring young Muslims to travel abroad for training or to participate in violent jihad. Al-Faisal has been credited with providing spiritual mentorship to men connected with terrorist acts and major plots including 7/7 London transit bombers Mohammed Sidique Khan and Germaine Lindsay and James Ujaama, an American who conspired to establish a jihad training camp in Bly, Oregon. In 2003, al-Faisal became the first person in 100 years to be found guilty in British court of soliciting murder under section four of the Offences against the Person Act 1861, on the basis that he “encouraged others to murder persons unknown.” He was sentenced to seven years in prison, but was released in May 2007 after serving only four years, and was extradited back to his native Jamaica.”
