Alabama Chief Justice Calls Homosexuality 'Evil' In High Court Decision
By Phillip Rawls
Associated Press
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In awarding custody of three teenagers to their father instead of their gay mother, Alabama's chief justice on Friday wrote that homosexuality is "an inherent evil" that should not be tolerated.
The nine-judge Alabama Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of a Birmingham man and against his ex-wife, who now lives with her gay partner in southern California.
The parents weren't named in court documents to protect the identity of the children, ages 15, 17 and 18.
Chief Justice Roy Moore wrote that the mother's relationship made her an unfit parent and that homosexuality is "abhorrent, immoral, detestable, a crime against nature, and a violation of the laws of nature."
Moore also quoted scripture, historical documents and previous state court rulings that he said backed his view.
Moore is known for his decision to place washing machine-sized monuments of the Ten Commandments in the state judicial building after he became chief justice last year. He earlier became known nationally as the "Ten Commandments judge" when he fought to keep a plaque of the Biblical commandments in his courtroom as a district judge.
David White, state coordinator for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance of Alabama, said Moore's opinion reflected outdated thinking.
"It's unfortunate Alabama is going to be embarrassed once again by a religious fanatic in a position of power in Alabama," White said. "It's obvious he cannot judge a gay person fairly and he should be removed from office."
John Giles, state president of the Christian Coalition, said Moore's decision protected the institution of marriage and strengthened the traditional family.
The father had held custody since 1996, but the mother petitioned for custody in June 2000, contending the father had been abusive.
John Durward, the father's attorney, said his client "is very relieved." The mother's attorney, Wendy Crew, did not return a telephone call seeking comment.
Whether you like it or not, the Constitution and Laws of the United States of America were based on 'Natural Law', that knowledge of right and wrong that God places in the hearts of every person when they are born. The laws of the United States are based on the belief system found in the Bible.
You say that you do not want a judge to base his decisions on his personal beliefs? What if his 'beliefs' are the same as those on which the United States was founded. While they may also be what Justice Moore believes, you can hardly say they are solely his.
Why your antagonism towards a belief system and set of laws based on Biblical principles. Laws based on the Ten Commandments cause no person harm, especially since the laws of the United States were originally based on the last Six Commandments which relate to our dealings with our fellow man. The first four concern our relationship with God and since they do not directly affect relationships between people, a person who is not a Christian should have no fear of them, although there are some idiots who profess to be Christians who might want to impose the first four Commandments on citizens as well, something most Christians would be completely opposed to; including me.
If you do not like laws based on Biblical priciples, what to propose as an alternative?
I don't mean any offense, but if you are that dull forget it.
It's amazing where these threads end up sometimes. Anyway, congratulations on your 4th FR anniversary yesterday.
Prov 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
And if, perchance, you were to find yourself in His hand this moment, are you suggesting you would have no fear?
I can assure you that I would.
No need to even have the word evil in the english language I guess since the word comes from religion. As do the original laws. Evil is as Evil does.
You never addressed this question, did you? "If you do not like laws based on Biblical priciples, what to propose as an alternative?"
(1). A new book was just published claims he was a flaming homosexual and was living openly with another homosexual in Vienna (a city known for perversions of all type and nature);
(2). The OSS published a psychological profile of Hitler during WW II which claimed he enjoyed having women deficate on his chest, along with taking 'golden showers,' among other things; and
(3). Regarding his half-sister's daughter, Geli Raubal, there was from evidence back in the 1930's that she was murdered. (a). From 'Rise and Fall of the Third Reich,' it is stated that Adolph Hitler and his young niece Geli had a huge fight the night before she died; (b). While the coroner found Geli had 'committed suicide,' the 'bullet had gone through her chest below the left shoulder and penetrated the heart.'
Think about positioning a weapon in that posture and pulling the trigger ,,,,
Finally, Heiden reported that Hitler's landlord's son found a letter written by Adolph to Geli, waxing on at length about his secret sexual desires. He, too, was found murdered.
