I must confess that I was surprised at those words when he spoke them.
I seemed that he ad-libbed them and after no immediate negative reaction I assumed he had been allowed to do so.
So if a future head of state ad libs again, what are they gonna do? Arrest him and try him in Belgium?
To: OrangeDaisy
I for one don't.

I declare open the Games of Salt Lake City, celebrating the Winter Olympic GamesAnd this was the phrase they were excited about? Sounds like it was written by a committee of diplomats. Wouldn't, "celebrating the 19th Olympiad" be better than a construction which says "games . . . celebrating . . . games"?

Missed a closed caret and dropped a line. Here it is, correctly: The French, the French,
A marvelous race.
They fight with their feet,
And f**k with their face.

A former rugby player, Rogge is trying to keep the focus of the Games on the athletes. Hes even sleeping on a cot in the athletes village. Isn't that "against protocol"?
To: JeanS
I've had it with the Olympics. The people who run them are egomaniac America-haters.
The people who try to get the Olympics in a particular American city are trying to line their own pockets with taxpayer money.
The judges are crooked.
The athletes aren't amateurs.
A pox on all of them. Take the Olympics to some foreign country and leave them there.

"But to some foreign visitors and members of the International Olympic Committee, who knew nothing about the changes to their beloved protocol, " Sheeesh! When these frogs squat, do they crap protocol?

Who'd have thought Ricky Nelson was such a sage?
But it's all right now,
I learned my lesson well.
You see, ya can't please everyone,
so ya got to please yourself.
It's also clear that there is a substantial portion of the world's population who has nothing better to do than find trivial things to be offended at.
And finally, if I were the French, I don't think I'd complain too loud until we figure out what's up with the skating judge...

I heard that everyone has been requested to say "Olympic Winter Games." The word Olympic must *always* be first. Radio personalities Rick & Bubba joked about this for an entire show last week, but pointed out the the IOC had broken their own rule! I noticed Bush stumbled over this phrase, but I thought he said "Olympic" first. This article quotes him saying "Winter" first. It's all so absurd!

Is this article for real?
