I lived in Northern Virginia, Spotsylvania and Orange counties to be exact. It was more southern than Central Florida.

Gotta respectfully disagree on that one jgrubbs. Although Central Florida isn't my beloved South, I still feel in many ways that I'm in the South. The pace is slower, the people friendlier, and I can get sweet tea and grits in most restaurants :) It's not Alabama, but its a lot better than No. Virginia.

Central Florida is definately not the south. It's more like Northern Puerto Rico. However, I live in Orlando and do love it for it's own reasons. Pensacola, though, is my place of birth and I'll argue with anyone who claims North Florida isn't the south. Our claim to fame is the beautiful white sand beaches. Affectionately known as the "Redneck Riviera".

Well, except for the panhandle you can't really consider Florida the south. The South is a way of life, not simply a geographical location.

I've never heard anyone suggest that Northern Virginia stretches below the Rappahannock.
