The Queen Mother's situation might not be funny, but the headline of the article (which the author of the thread deliberately altered) certainly was. I feel the Queen has lived a grand, glorious, meaningful and very full life. I will not think it a tragedy if she goes on to her reward at 100+ years, or at least not one I could ever in any way compare to the events of 9/11. So get over yourself. It's a stupid joke. It's funny.

Sory late in getting back to you Liz, but you are right. I wonder, what is your forecast for Prince Charles? King ever?

. I wonder, what is your forecast for Prince Charles? King ever? IMHO, no. If he does ascend to the throne, I figure he should be close to 70 or so considering how long-lived the Windsor women seem to be. (If you take into account the amount of booze and cigarettes Princess Margaret consumed, that she lived to be 71 is truly remarkable. If she had taken better care of herself, she might have seen 100, like her Mother.) Also, Larry King had some Brits on the other day and the subject of Queen Elizabeth leaving the throne and giving it to Charles came up. Seems that there is a rule about that and that the English Monarchy is different in this way than other royal houses in Europe. There is no mechanism for abdication in the British form of monarchy. (They didn't cover severe illness; but, just Elizabeth deciding to step down. Not likely.) So, Charles is going to have to wait for the current Queen to die, and that could be another 30 years.

Good analysis, Liz. I did wonder though because Charles has been increasingly public about Camilla Parker-Bowles. Being under his mum's thumb, so to speak, wonder if he resents it? I know little about the English monarchy, but have generally enjoyed their presence and color. Of course British socialists are trying to tear them down just like our own leftists are busy trying to erase our American heritage.
