I think you are still drunk from giving a 'last toast' to Waylon Jennings last night.
Is it okay for us to post about our grandmothers in Breaking News? or is this a sop to celebrity?
John Farson
The villain in Stephen King's novel The Gunslinger
"The typical American of today has lost all the love of liberty, that his forefathers had, and all their disgust of emotion, and pride in self-reliance. He is led no longer by Davy Crocketts; he is led by cheer leaders, press agents, word mongers, uplifters." --H. L. Mencken
Non serviam,huh?
"Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king."Pride is a deadly sin -- the deadliest. Non serviam is Lucifer's motto, not Christ's; humility and service to all were His principles. As St. Peter makes clear, free men = servants of God.1 St. Peter 2:13
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them. "You call me `Teacher' and `Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.God Himself bowed down and washed the filthy feet of a roomful of peasant fishermen. Who are you to remain standing?St. John 13:12-17
"Pride is the excessive love of one's own excellence. It is ordinarily accounted one of the seven capital sins. St. Thomas, however, endorsing the appreciation of St. Gregory, considers it the queen of all vices, and puts vainglory in its place as one of the deadly sins. In giving it this pre-eminence he takes it in a most formal and complete signification. He understands it to be that frame of mind in which a man, through the love of his own worth, aims to withdraw himself from subjection to Almighty God, and sets at naught the commands of superiors." -- The Catholic Encyclopedia

Yeah, and we all remember how well those experiments in democracy turned out...
hmmmm ... very astute.
Her body systems kept shutting down. She couldn't digest the liquid food and absorb the nutrients. It didn't take long before she was gone. We were angry that they had inserted the feeding tube, it only prolonged the dying process, it didn't add to her LIFE.
She passed on a couple of weeks ago, I am sure there was much celebrating in heaven. Right before she died, her daughter rubbed her arm and said "Mamma, it is OK, I know you want to go on to see Daddy, it is OK, go on now to Daddy (he had died years ago), I wish I could go see Daddy. You go on now." Within about twenty minutes my aunt had passed on. She was waiting for someone to release her from her earthly responsibilities.
My uncle died this week. He was 89, woke up feeling bad, had a heart attack, died on his way to the hospital. That was such a blessing for him! I want to go like that! He was Ralph Sturgis. My aunt was Gladys "Aunt Susie" Hughes.
It is a great LOSS for us, but life goes on. They were not going to recover and have any kind of life anymore. They are in heaven dancing, singing, celebrating!!!!
I am doing a lot of soul searching and deep thinking after these two deaths so close to me. They were both Children of God, that is good!!! It is just so depressing for those of us left behind. But I know I am in a period of mourning, and death is part of the cycle of life for all of us. I know the sun will shine again, blue skies, for everyone!!
I am a very distant cousin of the queen mother, not that she would know me!!!
You forgot the riot, regicide, and religious genocide. It's not really a capital-R Revolution without riot, regicide, and religious genocide.
"Legislative supremacy" is highly overrated. Vivat regina.
We can't know all that's in her mind or spirit, but it occurs to me that she might want to be with her daughter BECAUSE of the kinship: a chance to say, "I'll see you soon."
Oh, really? St. Paul didn't think so. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, he wrote
Submission to Rulers and Masters"Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh." Oooh, how that phrase burns in our proud, self-reliant, secular Western ears! How much we want to fool ourselves into thinking that God loves a rebel, a renegade, a man who can stand on his own two feet! But there it is: slaves are commanded by God to obey they masters, no matter how cruel; free men are commanded by God to submit to every Earthly authority, no matter how tyrannical or corrupt.Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.1 St. Peter 2:13-21
And Charles was hardly the worst king England ever had.
Don't like it? Too bad. Frankly, I don't care for it either. But there it is. You and I are not required to agree with God; we are called to obey him. Pride, self-reliance, and defiance of authority are the hallmarks of Lucifer. Meekness, humility, and submission to all authority (except where that submission would conflict with one's submission to God or His natural law) -- these are the Christian way.
Our Lord humbly submitted Himself to the rough justice of Rome. So did St. Stephen. So did all the other Martyrs of the Church. Who are we to say they were wrong to do so?
Christ commands us to "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's" -- i.e. respect, loyalty, revenue, and obedience. It is only when government demands our adoration -- that which rightly belongs to God alone -- that we may disregard its commands (and accept its consequences.)
The Revolutionaries of 1789 desecrated the high altar of God at Notre Dame and erected an idol of Reason in its place. When one commits regicide, one commits the same idolatrous sin -- erecting a shrine to the pagan goddess Liberty in the place of the Cross of Christ. To commit regicide is to strike at an authority that God Himself established.
