If you excuse brutality against innocent civilians anywhere, you excuse it everywhere. The difference being, of course, that we didn't start this war. They did. They have a culture and belief system that allows despotic rule by the Taliban.
It's their tough damned luck. I would have used nukes.

The so-called soldiers and the people who support them thinking it's their duty to go halfway around the world and kick 60 year old men in the teeth... You live in a fantasy world. There are no "so-called soldiers" who have done this. Enjoy living a lie.

The Uniform Code of Military Justice must be "insane" too.

There are no "so-called soldiers" who have done this No, war criminals and not soldiers did this. And if you don't think it happened, look at the excuses made for it by the people who presume it did.

And if you don't think it happened, look at the excuses made for it by the people who presume it did. I don't think it happened, and so far, you're the only one I've seen who presumes it did.

As I understand it these "allies" of ours opened fire on our troops, and our side killed a dozen or so of their side. Then "their" side surrendered. Don't they know that since clintoon left office our "male" soldiers don't hold hands??????

I don't believe a word of their claims.I don't either, but if this was one of those times when they did not put their weapons down, when told to do so, oh well.

Elswehere in the country, a Washington Post reporter was told by US soldiers that he would be shot if he didn't turn around. I suppose that didn't happen either. Then the people at the Penatagon say "We have no information about [insert topic here]" and that's good enough, isn't it?
To: codeword
If the mistreatment happened then lets punish the soldiers severely.
Looks like the locals are more pissed about the snitch than anything else. Who knows who is doing what to whom over there ? It must be a total zoo especially of you can have your enemy attacked just be convincing the Americans that your a Taliban.
To: AGAviator
Then the people at the Penatagon say "We have no information about [insert topic here]" and that's good enough, isn't it? After reading the Independent (UK) and seeing "jouralists" report Taliban propaganda as "fact", and considering this is the NY Times, as close to the Independent as I've seen on our shores, I'd give the Pentagon the benefit of the doubt at this point.
Perhaps you choose to believe the US military are babykillers and beat up 60 year old men...I do not.

Having grown up in a military town, heard more than my share of bragging about certain actions, and coming across some few people who had big-time problems, and a few others who were highly decorated vets, I recognize there's a wide spectrum of people in military service. Most are honorable, some are not.
To: AGAviator
Well as long as your original post was confined to that
small percentage of individuals who dishonor themselves, and not soldiers as a whole, I retract my argument.
Your original post was not specific as to how many you considered "so-called soldiers."

There's also a "command and control" issue here, as well as how some troops may have seen what others were doing and didn't try to stop it and didn't to report it.
Another reporter came to this village after the attack and saw an American flag left on a smashed vehicle, along with a message in English to "Have a nice day." Make you proud?
To: AGAviator
So that's why the US is going around apolgizing and paying money to the families of people who were shot? The title of the article is about Afghans being beaten. Now, you say they were shot. Which is it? Were they shot, or were they beaten, or maybe neither? Something tells me, you don't care one way or the other, you just want to bash the military. I was in the military for 20 years. Don't bash me.
