A Plague of Hate Sites

SEPTEMBER 11
A Plague of Hate Sites

Until recently, one of the biggest Internet-related worries for companies was employees who surfed the Web for cybersmut. Now, there's another concern: hate sites. The number of these venomous domains--which in the past featured gay-bashing, neo-Nazism, and misogynist rants--has doubled since September 11, to about 2,000, according to Websense, a San Diego software-monitoring company.

Growth is mainly due to a new niche: anti-Arab and anti-Muslim sites. Among them is crisis2001.com. Rich in racial epithets, it calls Islam "the scourge of the earth" and rallies to "nuke" them all. Another, you-got-mail.com, talks about "Satan's Muslims" and says it's "time to lock up the mosques and kick those dirty Muslims out." Others, such as nuke-kabul.com, are anti-Afghanistan and anti-Osama bin Laden in nature.

Employment lawyers say it's important for companies to remind workers of policies that bar viewing hate sites in the workplace. Warns Jennifer Kearns, a partner in San Francisco law firm Brobeck Phleger & Harrison: "Otherwise, you're kind of a sitting duck for a hostile- workplace suit."

Wanting to tear down others into whipping boys to build themselves up on stolen social standing commit acts of terror upon non combatant civilians is truly is the act of scoundrels and thieves and cowards.

Nobody likes terrorists but themselves. Just for playing the old old game of using religion to justify murdering and destroying property is not justification for throwing all Muslims in the same grouping with them.

You're right. I can tell this by the strong denunciations coming from Muslim quarters (Not)

AS for homosexuals, they are consenting adults doing what they do in the privacy of their bedrooms.

Uh huh.......that's why they insist on these practices being taught to preadolescent school children.

I have read the house of cards that is the hate based innuendo and slanted factoids that is contended to be "the great homosexual conspiracy and realize where I have seen similar efforts before; the Nazi claim Jews were stealing the reason out of good Christian's minds, engaged in conspiracies in the financial and art worlds, and they should be rubbed out for the good of humanity.

The leader of the Brownshirts was a homosexual. His name was Ernst Roehm.

Homosexuality is judged after extensive and painstaking work to be a variation of normal human sexuality, with gays and lesbians being well balanced and contributing members of society. Their sexuality doesn't warp their worth as citizens; nor do they "recruit."

You are in deep denial. Homosexuality is a misdirected sexual desire. Such as pedophilia, things of that nature. It's not normal, no matter how much you protest.

What I know now beyond any doubt is that homophobic people who victimize their peers because of a deep desire to belittle to puff themselves up have my deepest distain.

Homophobic is a poor term. It implies an irrational fear of something. Try homo"disgusted", or something like that.

If anyone had ever wanted me to buy the flawed premise that homosexuals are "evil," they should have protected me against being a target of opportunity, using the broad brush of stigmatizing homosexuals against anyone not because of facts, but because it was a convenient tool to blast a target they perceived as vulnerable.

Too funny. Homosexuals prey on the most vulnerable. Kids.

I just did a quick peek at crisis2001.com.
A couple of thoughts,
1 spellcheck, it's our friend, learn it, live it, love it.
2 GOSH they know how to swear and everything, soooo sophisticated.
3 Their logic and reasoning is like nothing I've ever seen, It reminds of of the old firing line.< /sarcasm>

"Sorry but I don't buy your Christianity=Islam moral equivalency argument."

Equal? I am not saying one isn't perhaps worse then another. I am merely saying the U.S. Constitution gives us freedom of religion. That is what I respect.

I am less then thrilled with some of the ugliness of Islam in light of some of what I have read. But before anything else, I respect the wisdom concerning religious tolerance in the Constitution.

These aren't hate sites;

these are "hate the creeps that killed 3000 of your fellow citizens" sites.

"Nothing personal but you got to "nut up" and shed this victim thing....you'll feel better I swear."

Oh, I am no stinking victim. I said I took care of him didn't I? I learned to take care of myself verbally and physically.

Back then, I was 5' 4" and weighted 135 pounds. I am considerably bigger and very well muscled and physically fit. I learned real fast to make those wanting to victimize me know the sting of a turned table.

For example, when I was a tree planter working in Hood River, Oregon, I drove my car into Portland to enjoy the weekend. Walking from the one block nig Powell's Book Store a tall thin kid waved and said, "Hi!" and whirled into a roundhouse kick.

I took the blow in the neck and had slipped into a back stance to keep a good anchor. I then moved forward and delivered a front snap kick and grabbed him by the neck to give him some ...... street fighting lessons with some punches I learned growing up around New Haven, Connecticut.

The police broke it up, and it turned out this guy was cruising down the street picking on street kids and soft bellied guys frequenting nearby clubs.

I was satisfied with that wide eyed look of incredulousness he had when I barely moved when he kicked me, and declined to press the cops to charge him. Though they did get him for kicking in the teeth of one skinny kid who had been sitting in the street panhandling.

I am far from being a Rambo class bad a*s, but I pride myself at handling my own scraps as best I can.

I work out, do not smoke, use drugs or drink, and even if someone can kick my butt, he will know aches and pains for his trouble taking me on.

Many guys who get picked on as kids either get very tough, or become professional victims in response to bullies. I am to fiercely independent to waste time hand washing a hair shirt, or playing the, "poor me" game. ;-)

"No, I think that the quintessential school bully is a separate entity. I have logged into hate sites though- The true way is the educated and diplomatic conservative rebuttal etc to promote the cause best nevertheless let all fire away. P.S. Got bullied myself and did hit back- here and there. Cheers."

Good post. Yes, a bully is indeed a bully. But I was bugged by developing so late - as some kids do - and all the girls I liked didn't seem to like me. I was too shy to ask any to dance at parties, and I was rarely able to date.

So, his words cut my heart open like cold knife. He knew I dreaded and feared the gay label, and used it to burn me physiologically. I had one parent, and that person has a lifelong alcohol problem. I am the oldest of six kids, and I had to do stuff to take care of my siblings I shouldn't have had to do. And nobody was there to guide me through the trauma of dealing with a large, brutal bully.

I'm not complaining, what's done is done; but my upbringing gave me deep empathy and passion for those oppressed. Whoever that may be. If you understand that, you understand why someone like me who was once as conservative as many of you got so many liberal outlooks.

Re #39. Sorry, your logic is flawed. I hear a shrill tone of hate between the lines of your words. If you were hating the 'sin' but loving the sinner, I might find your words compelling, but you sound like homosexuals are your favorite chew toy of a scapegoat But thanks for your take on this. You do have a right to your opinion, just like everyone else.

I have gay friends, and there are many lesbian couple who own homes near mine. None of them have ever tried to recruit me or anyone else. And other then their differences in sexual preference, they are will balanced, and very normal fellow citizens.

I find it interesting that you refuse to address my post.

YOU CLAIMED that Sodomites didn't recruit.

I posted evidence that they do.

YOU CLAIMED that Sodomy is a protected right.

I Posted evidence that it is not.

Why don't you address those points?

"Do me a favor; take your Christians = Muslims argument and shove it."

All religions are populated by imperfect human beings. I doubt you are interested in a list of evils done historically in the name of Christianity, so I won't bother you with examples.

I don't condemn Christianity because it as a religion was used as a tool to do terrible things. Neither do I condemn all Muslims for much the same reasons.

I would love to strap ben Laden's ugly body to my fender like a buck deer too. But I refuse to be infected by hate like him. I would not fly a jetliner into Mecca making innocent Muslims scapegoats for his crimes.

Because I find the hate and lynch minded tones of anti homosexual threads not contusive to reasoned debate.

I could cite APA data, and other source material all day, and it would just make people like you angrier, and become even more combative and deeply enraged.

When your side has a body of empirical data, and objective facts to work with like those who have studied homosexuality and found them not to be mentally ill do, I would be glad to talk.

Until then, I hear your opinion, and I have stated mine.

If that is not good enough, just declare victory and call it a day. You would do that regardless of the strength of my arguments anyways. So, why waste time? ;-)

Nothing personal but you gotta "nut up" and shed this victim thing....you'll feel better I swear.

LOL. Thats funny but I think we need to give people a bit of leeway if they are speaking from a personal experience that corresponds to the article.

Let me try to explain what I think is wrong with all this 'groupism', religion and politics included:

The main reason everyone expresses such cries of 'tolerance' and 'condemnation' is because we all have become both extremist and absolutist. Our fallacy is to claim liberalism or homosexuality or Islam or fill-in-the-blank is THOROUGHLY wrong and destructive and must be fought and condemned at all costs.

On one level it is an arms race of rhetorical hyperbole in a war for the public mind, but the true enemy of us all is the nefarious elements that are promoting all these 'issues' in order to confuse, divide, fatigue and numb us in the hopes that we will disengage or waste energy on political triviality.

It is designed to make politics insane and make non-involvement attractive.

Dont take the bait.

But before anything else, I respect the wisdom concerning religious tolerance in the Constitution.

When the Constitution was written, there were only two religions within this nation, Judaism and Christianity. The freedom of religion clauses also only applied to the federal government level as many states AFTER, let me repeat AFTER the Constitution was affirmed established their own state churches. The main reason that freedom of religion was an issue in the first place was because some of the denominations were receiving heat from the COE and vice versa. Paine and his crew were few and far between. The Founders never intended for the worship of everything from a tree to the moon

I hear a shrill tone of hate between the lines of your words.

That's the sound of your own feeble mental fuse tripping out.

You are suffering from a short-circuit of the logic synapses caused by a cranial infestation of liberal pinworms that have wriggled across the gaps.

There is no cure.
