Is Free Republic becoming increasingly hostile towards Social Conservatives?
self ^ | self

In the past few months I have noticed that the posters on Free Republic have become more and more hostile towards social conservatism.

And I do not mean indifference (less pro life threads etc) but an outright hostility at pro life and other social conservative causes.

Am I alone in thinking this?

In particular, notice the responses to the thread concerning the recent request by social conservative groups to the FCC to reign in Fox's racey primetime programs.

I wonder if this is becoming only a haven for hedonists and libertarians, and if so, perhaps it would be better for social conservatives to find their own site.

darn, just when i REALLY have to leave the chicks get here, nothing like a GOP woman to get the blood boiling. I apologize for my sexist remark in advance as the Kournikova photo above caused an implosion of the thread and myself

Evolution is sending millions of people to hell...

Are they evolving into devils?

Take me back to a time when conservatives laughed at Joycelyn Elders for her ideas on legalizing drugs....

No, that wasn't why I laughed at her. It was her idea that teenagers had to be taught to masturbate that got to me.

Was that funny!

The fact that she thought government needed to do that was Nanny State Liberalism distilled to its very essence.

I just want to say goodbye to Free Republic. Because I believe that we evolved within a created universe, to become the sentient beings that we now are, and because I believe Roman Catholicism is the best religion for me personally, and because I support Israel all the time, and believe TWA 800 was struck by a missile, and Vince Foster was murdered, but not Baxter, and that McVeigh had help, but that Vernon Howell started the fires, and because I believe the LOTRs is superior to Harry Potter, and that the WOD is a waste of money, and that taking drugs is stupid, but that naked women are great, that homos can do whatever they want as long as they stay out of my face, that a republic is better than an empire, that a national ID is a bad idea, that students should be allowed to pray in school, and additionally, that Keyes had a better ideological basis for his platform, that some vanity threads are worthwhile, and furthermore, that German beer is better than Budweiser, Italian and Jap bikes are better than Harleys (except for the new V-Rod and Buell Firebolt), and because not everyone agrees with me, it is with deep regret and much sadness, that I must bid this place adieu.

Don't try to talk me out of it.

I'm going.

I'm out the door, here I go.

...leaving.

The National Household Survey has used the same sampling methods for decades. It's very credible.

Again, I oppose the excesses of the WOD. But, I support laws that severely punish drug dealers and users and I support stigmatization by the government.

Why can't one oppose the WOD and be opposed to drug legalization?

So long. That's it.

My swan song.

There's still time to stop me if you hurry, but I'm just about out the door.

...and don't think that I'll come back under another name once I'm gone, 'cause this is it.

Everyone who disagrees with me has ruined FR lately. Farewell.

Please dont go, we really need to have "diversity" of opinion. It is true that we need to starve a cold and feed a fever and everybody in the village must contribute. If only you had the "right" perspective we could "re-double" our efforts against liberals.

Even if they were all atheists, there would still be problems with your statement, since most of them can explain where moral standards come from (although you personally may not like or agree with those explanations).

Anyone with any training in logic knows that objective moral standards (universal) cannot exist without God. Without God, they are necessarily manmade and therefore subjective not objective. Thus, they can posit an explanation, but I will rip it apart for its lack of logical coherence. Would you like to try?

While I recognize the sarcasm implicit in your approach, just let me say that I am one Freeper who agrees with virtually all of the positions stated in your original post.

Dan, you and I don't agree on much, but I *really* liked this post of yours. Hats off to you, sir. While I am still "pro-WOD," you have elucidated well your opposition, and have really made me think. Thank you. I am much closer to agreeing with your position than I thought I was.

Yeah, pal, it is a fact. Since we increased punishment and stigmatization of drugs, an effort spearheaded by Ronald Reagan, the most influential conserative of the 20th century, drug use has dropped from 26 million monthly users in 1979 to 14 million in 2000 (Naitional Household Survey).
