"MkII's come in .45?"

This particular model is designated .22/.45 due to the grip design which similar to a .45 semi-automatic. It is a bull-barreled .22 target pistol. A really nice shooter that will last forever.

Nothing wrong with Glocks, they are fine guns. If you keep your finger off the trigger, don't point it at anything you don't wish to destroy and treat every gun as if it were loaded, this would not have happened. No matter what the gun.

Also you can't see what position the hammer is in on a Glock, whether it's cocked or not.

I'll stick with my Browning HP.

No, they're not more likley to go off accidentally, just more likely to go off negligently. Meaning the person behind the gun wasn't paying attention.

The main glock safety is a trigger safety. That means your finger has to actually pull the trigger to defeat the safety-a sudden jolt won't do it, unless it somehow manages to pull the entire trigger http://www.glock.com/_safe_action_.htm

Glocks don't feature a manual safety (there are some, but were special made for certain police departments, iirc).

I personally prefer a semi-auto that also features a nice grip safety a-la a 1911, but it's not necessary. You could have 50 safeties built into a gun, but if you violate one of the four safety rules, you're still going to be out of luck.

It can't be blamed on the glock (if that's what it was). It was the officer's fault, 100%.

All the Glock owners will be here soon to tell us how the Glock is a perfectly safe design and they haven't accidentally shot anybody since last year.

the gun of an off-duty police officer accidentally discharged...

This is EXACTLY why NOBODY should have a gun. You just never know when one of them will go off all on its own...

The cop was no doubt cleaning the weapon. That is what you always see in the papers. He/she was cleaning the gun and it went off. Duh, unload it first.

Yeah, accidents happen to the best. However, as a Fed I have little confidence in most of my fellow leo's on properly handling firearms.

I guarantee it would have not have happened with my P7, you know damn good-n-well when that puppy is cocked!

Maybe the kids wanted to see the gun, and the officer showed-off a little too much.

I've carried a Glock for years with no trouble whatsoever.

The guns with the safety levers have problems too, because the untrained foolishly rely on the safety devices instead of safe gun practices. I remember reading about a LEO who shot someone who had surrendered and was being cuffed, because he used the hammer-drop safety while it was still pointed at the perp. Gun went bang. oooops
