Sounds like one of the safety rules needs rewording for the benefit of the totally clueless: "Never let ANYTHING touch the trigger until you are ready to shoot."

And the government officials are worried about citizens with guns?????? Why don't they worry about the idiots in uniform?

I don't have documentation, but I swear I heard on the radio years back about a cop who was faced with a split second choice between shooting a perp and cracking him with the gun.

He chose to hit the guy and when he did the slide came off his Glock. Must have hit him pretty hard, because that did the trick and Mr. Badguy was taken into custody.

never point any gun... loaded or not, at something you do not intend to kill. RULE ONE in my book.

To my shock and amazement, I found out through one of our local freepers here in the NW that portland cops, the majority armed with semi-autos, don't go to the range for periods of over two years in MOST cases.

It's pathetic. If you don't go to the range, or train on the proper use of the gun at least once every month or two, HOW the hell can you claim proficiency.

I always assume a gun is loaded. EVERY gun I see is loaded. EVERY gun I touch is loaded, EVEN after I empty it, ESPECIALLY the semi autos, chambering one, while holding a full clip.

Accidents happen, but I never understand it. HOW can a trigger with a 3-5 pound pull ever be tripped ACCIDENTALLY? While aimed at a kid's head? ACCIDENTALLY? This is why cops cannot be trusted to stop crime, or enforce the laws at gunpoint. Some don't even KNOW or apparently practice the basic logic of firearm safety.

If you call officer 911 after the felony, he is just as likely to shoot himself in the foot, whack your sleeping kid by ACCIDENT, or otherwise compound your victimhood. It is best to simply arm yourself, go to the range, preach to your wife and kids about how to make sure guns are never pointed at anything you don't expect to die or be destroyed. And then teach them how to SAFELY shoot a 6-9 inch spread at 50 feet.

Basic training on the equipment and reinforcement of common sense safety with any potentially dangerous tool. It works for cars, well, for most folks that is.

This cop should go to jail. HOW could this be an accident? I just don't get it.

The Roundhouse is an interesting piece of work architecturally speaking...

Interesting about those "two turds"... I hope they are doing time. Convicts LOVE cops in jail...

I guess my point is that there seems to be a lackadaisical attitude with many leo's about being profficient with their weapons.

I have a good friend that has trained military, LEO and civilians all over the world. He HATES to teach police officers how to shoot, because the attitude of so many of them is so smug & know-it-all, when many of them truly don't have a clue.

He actually had a guy in a class one time that was the head honcho in his department. Couldn't hit the target for his life with his sidearm. The second day, the guy dropped his weapon, and it discharged and hit the target.

True story, honest to God.

He says training civilians is a joy, because they want to learn, and because, overall, they are MUCH more proficient with their weapons.

Wait...this sounds like the pilot episode for "Boston Public." Sure somebody wasn't watching a repeat?

FBI stats show that cops are like ELEVEN times more likely to shoot the wrong person in a confrontation than a lawfully armed citizen....and just as likely to suffer a negligent discharge of their firearms (as in this case) due to poor training and even less practice.

Glocks are not for the unenlightend. The key difference is hey're prone to negligent discharge as opposed to accidental discharge

Well put. And totally correct.
