SHARM EL SHEIK, Egypt -- Egypt's allies and international agencies pledged $10.3 billion in aid over three years for the key Mideast nation, participants at a donors' conference said Wednesday.
The package includes about $2.1 billion to be disbursed right away to meet immediate needs in a country whose already weak economy has been battered by the Sept. 11 fallout. Egypt had asked for up to $3 billion for immediate needs.

Why? Sheeshhh. I believe we have our own problems financially here at home. More handouts? I don't trust Egypt as a foreign ally to the United States. They never condoned the terrorist against us on 9-11.
Most of the $10.3 billion was pledged by the United States -- Egypt's biggest foreign donor --
Oh that's rich. Only billions, why not trillions?
Egypt is becoming a "welfare nation" and we are the biggest contributors. We have been doing this for years. I would like to know where all that money is going.

$10,300,000,000 divided by 67,000,000 people, add 3 divide by 12 subtract 10, and hey... thats about $153 per person. That's about half the tax refund that W got for us tax payers. If this give away was stopped maybe could even save MORE of our own dang money and not support countries that HATE US! Hellooooo? Will some one please tell my what the payback on this is? And please don't tell me how Egypt is going to help maintain peace in the region!
The article doesn't explain how Egypt was affected by 9/11. I cannot envision how Egypt could be affected. It seems like everyone is using 9/11 as an excuse for poor performance, and when this excuse is given, it is rarely questioned.
It would seem that international entitlement programs have the same results as national entitlement programs.
Please explain to us again, Ted and Tommy, why we can't afford to let taxpayers keep some of their money, and the reason for that deficit spending thing. We seem to have some confusion here.
Tourism. Egypt and Israel are losing tons of money by lost tourism dollars since 9-11 (and the intifada). Tourism/Hospitality is Israel's #1 industry, and Egypt's #2 industry. Egypt has some oil to fall back on, Israel doesn't... but Israel has other vibrant industries that Egypt doesn't due to lack of communications, infrastructure, skilled labor. Not that I justify the aid, only to answer your question.
Egypts promise not to join an Arab coalition against Israel.
