You don't have to travel all the way to the Pakistani frontier to find mobs of America-hating fanatics -- just visit your nearest American university.
From Harvard to Michigan to UC San Diego, editorial comment from our future "journalists" admonish us that the Sept. 11 attacks were "not unwarranted" given our "arrogance" in dealing with the rest of the world. Demonstrations by students and professors proclaim that patriotism equals hate and that a country as criminal as the United States got what it deserved.

Perhaps the students & faculty in the Ithaca area would like to learn the sport of snipe hunting. After all, Ithaca is Gorges.
(Just kidding----NOT to be taken seriously, only sarcastic humor at work.)
If we tried to organize a Snipe Hunt in Ithaca the local chapter of PETA would have a "Save the Snipe" rally up and running in a matter of hours. ;-)
How 'bout: Forget Tibet. Free Ithaca.
Not bad. Very good actually.
I only see one problem: the slogan will be misunderstood by the dominant lefties of Ithaca who will think it's a call to make Ithaca even MORE socialist.
I think I prefer the "city of evil" sticker if for no other reason than the fact it bug people so arrogant as to brag how "enlightened" their city is nuts.
This one is somewhat more well reasoned (it's from the "moderate" probable-democrat who serves as what passes for a token conservative voice in Ithaca), and while defending Barlas' right to publish, takes her to task for "misguided ideological doctrines [that] have led her beyond thoughtful criticism ...to the paranoiac fantasy that compels her to demonize our country ...."
The article also provides a partial link to Barlas' original article
The link to the Ithaca College mag also reveals another Ithacite's article about how September 11 is our fault because:
If we really wanted justice, we would address the basic inequities that fuel the anger against us. We comprise less than 5 percent of the worlds population but account for nearly a third of the worlds energy consumption and a quarter of its wealth. We own a third of the motor vehicles and emit 25 percent of the greenhouse gases that change the climate for everyone. Even among our poorer citizens, our greatest health risks stem not from malnutrition but obesity. A sixth of the worlds population has to eke out existence on less than a dollar a day, or a third of the cost of a cappuccino grande. Where is the justice in that?
Ithaca is the City of Evil
This is SO true. I never buy cappuccino grandes for this exact reason.
We have a letter to the editor, with this pithy comment in it:
It is the function of the academy to challenge conventional thinking, to unearth evidence that does not fit conveniently into the patriotic and simplistic models of political and corporate elite and to offer different perspectives as to ways of seeing the world.
And even an entire guest column by uber-liberal writing Professor Fred Wilcox, who complains:
What is missing in these calls for multiple wars is any analysis of why people might hate or wish to attack the United States of America. Moreover, anyone who questions the current administration's bellicose rhetoric, indeed its license to kill anyone, anywhere, for any reason, is called a traitor, labeled unpatriotic and dismissed as an American-hating leftist.
Ithaca is working overtime to hold on to that "City of Evil" title,
The first guy [Charles DeMotte (Professor of History, Empire State College, New York)]is a real wack job, whose writings range from Finger Lakes restaurant reviews to book reviews of New Age gibberish.
There is, however, at least one signatory from Berkeley.
Further proof that Ithaca is the City of Evil.
However, being the "liberal" media, rather than print it as a stand-alone letter, or even a guest column (the way they did with the liberal opinions), the buried it in their heavily truncated "Darts and Laurels" section.
DART: From Robert Bart of Ithaca on the lack of respect for conservative viewpoints on campuses: "Recently The Journal published letters exchanged between Assemblyman Marty Luster and Sen. Joseph Lieberman regarding the controversial 'Defending Civilization' report. In his letter, Luster proudly presented his status as a loyal Democrat and an ACLU Honor Roll recipient, so naturally he had to be at odds with a report criticizing liberal policies at universities. Political correctness, though, is a fact, and woe to those who would voice an opposing viewpoint. Perhaps that is why conservatives like William F. Buckley Jr., Pat Buchanan or Jeanne Kirkpatrick are seldom invited to speak at liberal universities, and when they do appear they are usually greeted by left-wing hecklers."
Ithaca is the City of Evil.
We have another guest column today in which the writer holds forth that:
Using terms like "evil Taliban," "Axis of Evil" and other such phrases is shortsighted and dangerous. "You are with us or against us" is a phrase that is good only for dividing people; it opens the door to persecution. Any puppet with speechwriters can incite nationalistic fervor. Does the name Joseph McCarthy ring a bell?Colleges (ideally) should teach students to think critically, to analyze evidence, to weigh all factors and to arrive at intelligent, logical decisions. Opinions that differ must be taken as what they are; we cannot believe that our team is always right.
We also have another whiny letter to the editor asking:
Does anyone really think that it is unpatriotic to ask whether some of our foreign policies are causing unexpected and undesirable consequences for others and ourselves?
Ithaca is the City of Evil.
