FreedomFriend | 02/02/02 | FreedomFriend

This is a simple question in which I want to gain insight. At least in terms of the opinions of the FreeRepublic population.

I'll tabulate the responses.

So what are you? Pro-Life or Pro-Abortion.

I am pro-life.

But I'm a firm believer that passing a law isn't going to end abortions. Abortions occurred before Roe v. Wade and would still occur if a law was passed. Work on the personal responisbility angle; better results would be achieved.

I'm not arguing mandatory abortions, just access to them without fear of stigma or reprisal.

My mother thinks that birth control should be put in the city water system!

The guidelines currently in operation were issued by the Medical Council on 26 November, 1998 and superseded the previous document, published in 1993. The following is the text relevant to abortion:

"The deliberate and intentional destruction of the unborn child is professional misconduct. Should a child in utero suffer or lose its life as a side effect of standard medical treatment of the mother, then this is not unethical. Refusal by a doctor to treat a woman with a serious illness because she is pregnant would be grounds for complaint and could be considered to be professional misconduct."

==============================

This runs in direct contradiction to the claims made by Kirkland Junction.

Pro life...period. I remember a time when mothers would sacrifice their lives for their babies. Now, the opposite is true.

You claimed that the doctor was prevented from saving the mother's life by removing the already dead fetus from the womb. Are you now changing your statement?

Yes. In Lebanon Suicide Bombers are revered and martyred by their mothers.

I made the mistake of recounting a current abortion discussion in a nearby country. I should know better.

Apparently few here were aware of the intense discussions in Ireland.

In my paper, I referenced press, journals, and formal minutes.

The paper was to show the depth of debate, the Irish legal structure and of the reporting of same.

It leads to a thesis on the Irish legal system, post-revolution, compared to evolved UK legal system.

I've got work to get back to, some I'm outta' here.

Usually I would be inclined to agree with you. However, in this case, I detect an intentional word game. A word game intended to win sympathy for the faction that wishes to eliminate Irish law banning abortion. I tend to lack good will toward people who are working to make it easier to take innocent life for fun and profit.

Qualified Pro-choice, abortion should be legal under certain circumstances but illegal or restricted under many other circumstances.
