Dr. Pepper omits "under God" from Pledge to Flag
KLIF - Dallas/Fort Worth ^ | 2/1/02 | self

Posted on 02/01/2002 8:16:25 AM PST by smokinleroy

I heard on the Darrel Ankarlo show on KLIF radio (Dallas/Fort Worth) this morning that some students in Iowa are launching a letter-writing campaign to protest the actions of Dallas based Dr. Pepper. It seems on a recently issued can with a patriotic theme including a picture of the statue of liberty that they printed the Pledge of Allegience to the Flag in which they omitted the phrase "under God". When inquired as to the reason, the company representative said that there was not enough room. Anyone else hear this story?

Here is the answer I got from them:

Thank you for contacting Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc. about the current Dr Pepper packaging in your market.
Your comments are appreciated as they provide valuable feedback.

Given recent national events, this patriotic packaging was designed by our Graphics department
to reflect our pride in this country's determination to
stand together as one, strong and indivisible, under any circumstances.
The Statue of Liberty and the Pledge of Allegiance were chosen
as two of the greatest symbols to represent that feeling.
We think we have a message that is resoundingly patriotic,
a message that we are a united nation. We felt "One Nation...Indivisible"
best represented the message we were trying to get across.

Again, we appreciate you taking the time to share your opinion with us about
this packaging. We have forwarded your comments for usage
when evaluating future packaging designs.

If the can only says: "One Nation...Indivisible" ...This is being blown out of proportion

I agree with you. I was under the impression that the entire Pledge was on the can except for the two words 'under God' conspicuouily missing. Apparently, such is not the case, and I see no fault in what Dr Pepper did.

I believe Dr. Pepper is sold in the South as "Mr. Pibb" I could be wrong but I remember that from Spring Break.

I too have written customer relations.

Nope. Mr. Pibb is Coca-Cola's horrid attempt to compete with Dr.Pepper. It is like those "Designer Imposters" frangrances that mimic the real thing...Not even Close.

The benefits of which can hardly be spoken of strongly enough.

Being a true conservative, I didn't like the governments meddling in an already adequate pledge.. I like the original myself.

You understand of course that the pledge was written and sponsored by a dyed in the wool socialist.

Since the story as originally posted appears to be incorrect, will you be calling off your boycott campaign, so as not to "bear false witness"?

[sarcasm]"Dr." Jimmy, eh? You're obviously an atheist colleague of this evil Pepper. Do you by chance market any product we can boycott because it doesn't recognize our private religion? Enjoy burning in hell, you heathen...[/sarcasm]

Yeah, I dont like the tone of it really. Reminds me of the "Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for your country".

Subjugation of the individual to the state..

Like the aforementioned physician Pepper, there is no "." in my title, but otherwise we are not co-conspirators. By the way, anyone here drink heated Dr Pepper? I grew up in Virginia, and in the winter instead of hot chocolate my mom put a pan of Dr Pepper on the stove. It was good stuff.

Actually, Pibb & Pepper taste nearly the same. There's hardly a bit of difference. I know this because the restaurant I work at used to purchase Pepsi Products. Dr. Pepper was one of the items sold to us. Then, the restaurant switched to Mr. Pibb. Taste differences: Slight, but nearly the same. None is really better than the other.
