We had a great dinner with Freeper friends last night, most of whom have been here at the booth today and some addtions today. I'll try to list them all if I can remember and please to try to rationalize the order lol - Glaswegian, abner, victim of circumstance, Requiem for Truth, LBGA, Skeet, Bob J, diotima, LurkerNoMore!, MAF, Interesting Times, Seeking the Truth, ReaganGirl, Angelwood, Exit148, sauropod, dubyaismypresident, tgslTakoma, kristinn, basil, SUSSA, Eternal Vigilence, Nick Danger, Rikastrom, dittomom, Molly Pitcher, holdonnow, pbj??? (sorry, I can't remember the numbers lol), IHateBill, IronJack, Badray, GunsareOK, CongressmanBillyBob.
Shoot! I can see the faces, but can't remember all the names!
Requiem for Truth's beautiful daughter (5 yrs) sang Lee Greenwood's song- I'm Proud to be an American for us. Wow! What an incredible voice! The restaurant treated her to a desert of her choice (vanilla ice cream) as a Thank you.
...(sigh)...
But I do enjoy the updates.
Here is the balloon.
The FR booth is getting great action, and I talked to lots of folks who greatly appreciate all of the work that FReepers do...their comments were enlightening, and enheartening.
Little Schuyler's singing last night was phenomenal! She was so bold...not shy in the least...and what a tremendous voice!! What a fantastic talent!!
Of course...she's a FReeper kid!
:-)
Today I was able to thank Ms. Katherine Harris "for defending the Constitution," something I had promised to do back in November 2000.
The remark was made during Q&A after Ms. Harris' speech on Election Reform in Florida.
I asked Ms. Harris about electoral reform Nationally, and what the prospects were for routing out election fraud and addressing it to reduce the prospects of a Florida-like scenario developing elsewhere - particulary since the demonflop seizure of the Senate has put the matter more or less off of the radar screen. Her response, coupled with a pollster (not associated), focused on legislation being sponsored by Sen. Dodd (D-CT) that would set up a whole new bureaucracy, and how this was a bad thing, and that true reform would encourage state solutions.
Tonight at the dinner, I had, as a table partner, a guy from the American Coalition of Fathers and Children. Interesting, organized, and hardworking group, that are dedicated to Father's rights. It is always SO great to meet such diverse groups with core interests.
Dinner was good - I'm always amazed how they can turn out REALLY good meals for so many at one time! (Salmon and Fillet Mignon - each with its own sauce, and the best mashed potatoes I've had since I left my mother's kitchen!
Many standing O's, and especially for Jesse Helms. Someone told me today that no matter how tough and fierce a warrier he is On the Hill, he is as sweet as can be in his office to his staff. Jesse Helms a 'sweetie'? I'll have to add that to my image of him! LOL!
All I had to do was close my eyes when Art Linkletter was speaking, and I was transferred back to his early years. I'm not one who always listened to him when I was a kid and always wanted to be on his show ----but I always wanted MY kids to be on his show!!LOL! (Actually I didn't have kids then, but it just goes to show that he appealed to everyone, and his wit hasn't diminished one bit! You would NEVER believe he was almost 90!!!!
Laura S. was also a hit. I have to be truthful and say that she irritates the heck out of me sometimes, (actually most of the time) but all her positions have been right on, and she pointed that out in her talk, which centered on the effects of 9/11, and basic truths. She is a great speaker - very colorful, and one REALLY listens when she speaks. That was quite evident on "Radio Row". All the radio link-ups are in one area, and she always had a crowd in front of her. Ellen Ratner was there today, also --- but I didn't see any crowds! (heehee!)
Asa Hutchinson was up at the head table, but didn't speak. Many other faces were seen at the tables - Mike Barnicle, Brent Bosell, Innis from CORE, Gary Aldrich. These Conservative gatherings are a junkies delight!
Well, beddie bye time! I'll be ready for another 'fix' tomorrow! LOL!
