Gephardt: Bashing big corporations, especially drug manufacturers: "People shouldn't have to chose between food and medicine"

I am a "senior citizen", on Medicare. My former employer pays 50% of the cost of my medication - at absolutely no cost to me. Mr. Gephardt can take his "universal prescription drugs" and put them where the sun don't shine. I don't want my neighbors to pay for my medication. Period.

Even more important than Iran, I think, was his implicit condemnation of Saudi Arabia. "Some nations have been timid in the face of terror..." or something to that effect.

OMG - I'll have to go look. Do I really want to? Ugh. I'm still trying to forget that he was even on our state's soil.

camera focused on an Air Force Lt. Col (female) in the gallery, she appeared somewhat uncomfortable (figeted) as the camera focused in on her, my thought was... "who is this ?" never found out, perhaps this was the subject person in question ?

The thing is that I don't think that "backup" was bashing Bush. He just said something to the effect that he did not think the tax cut was big enough. If anything, the people responding to him were rude.

I'm one of those who responded to backup. If all the guy can do is to grouse about the size of his tax rebate during the State of the Union, then he truly is obtuse. Change will not happen overnight for tax reform. And like it or not, GW got something done his first year that provided tax relief. That's better than Clinton, eh?

Did anyone see the Democ, I mean Repub, Senator McCain?

Yup, first up to speak to Andrea Mitchell and the MSNBC cameras.

I must be dreaming - first with Juan Williams saying Bush "surpassed expectations" and Bill Schneider just said he is a "President of character". Guiliani (I thought he was to get an award this evening?) is on LKL saying the speech was somewhat spirtual and philosophical. When Brian Williams asked how he did laying out his vision, Leon Penetta said "he rose to the occasion on foreign policies but can he bring a sense of unity on domestic issues". Hey Leon -- you're turning green.

Maybe he was booted for something he posted on another thread.

Good point. Could have been like Watsonfellow, who was criticizing Bush on several State of the Union Threads.

I am going through the transcript to see if George ever said 'I'. I think Clinton said " I" in every single sentence.

That's the first thing my mom and I talked about when the speech was over. Please let me know if he ever did say "I". If so, it had to be only once or twice. I'm thinking maybe not at all.

It's so nice to not hear, "I've worked harder on this than.............."

Oh......the thought is nauseating !!!!!!!

Was it me...or did it seem that ABC would turn the microphones down when G. W. was recieving applause?

I noticed it several different times. I changed over to CBS and NBC and neither of them seemed to be doing it.

Interesting you'd mention her. At one point (I was watching it on ABC) the camera panned to a female Air Force person, who was clearly enthused about Bush's speech. I remember seeing a picture of the female pilot, but I have no idea if this was her. It occurred to me at that moment that it could have been her.

Hey, I said that I didn't agree with backup. I said as much in one of my posts. All I was saying is that I didn't think his comments warranted banning.

These are the only times that the president said "I".

Shannon, I assure you and all who have lost a loved one that our cause is just, and our country will never forget the debt we owe Micheal and all who gave their lives for freedom.

I admire the leadership of President Musharraf. But some governments will be timid in the face of terror. And make no mistake: If they do not act, America will.

We will be deliberate, yet time is not on our side. I will not wait on events, while dangers gather. I will not stand by, as peril draws closer and closer. The United States of America will not permit the world's most dangerous regimes to threaten us with the world's most destructive weapons.

Our first priority must always be the security of our Nation, and that will be reflected in the budget I send to Congress. My budget supports three great goals for America: We will win this war, we will protect our homeland, and we will revive our economy.

. I am a proud member of my party - yet as we act to win the war, protect our people, and create jobs in America, we must act first and foremost not as Republicans, not as Democrats, but as Americans.

Americans who have lost their jobs need our help and I support extending unemployment benefits, and direct assistance for health care coverage. Yet American workers want more than unemployment checks ? they want a steady paycheck. When America works, America prospers, so my economic security plan can be summed up in one word: jobs.

Good jobs depend on expanded trade. Selling into new markets creates new jobs, so I ask Congress to finally approve Trade Promotion Authority. On these two key issues, trade and energy, the House of Representatives has acted to create jobs ? and I urge the Senate to pass this legislation. .......

Well, you get my point.

Did you notice how much Dick Gephardt said the word I in his response? Many, many times. What is with the Dems, are they so self important? And I loved how President Bush shared the credit this evening. What a classy man he is. He realizes it can't be done all by himself.
