Is there a reason you keep putting up multiple posts of this vanity into breaking news? Are you going out of your way to show us what NOT to do?

Did you post that link as an example of what not to do? Actually I think it is a good idea to have one thread a day dedicated to "off-topic" stuff. That way, all the bizarre stories and such can be contained in a single daily thread, easily avoided by those who want nothing to do with it.

Anyway, that is just my opinion.

Could you please link previous threads to this one? Thanks. And thank you for bringing it back to the top. The more it is seen, the better it will be.

It is time for us all to start pulling together so that we can elect more Republicans in November.

Good stuff. I do agree that there are too many DU and National Enquirer-type posts. It's not necessarily bad to see what the enemy is doing, but it should be limited to articles that can be construed as somewhat intelligent if misguided. Posting the shrill screamings that you find at DU, National Enquirer posts that headline Hillary Clinton being abducted by aliens, and other Jerry Springer-type stuff needs to go.

I'd like to say one thing regarding the editing of headlines. I think it's a good idea to add words in some cases to convey the meaning better than the original headline. Adding some additional words doesn't harm the searchability when trying to find duplicates.

When a thread is deleted, can we have a brief explanation? My curiosity kills me!

Just a comment. Often there are many posts on FR asking for advice and opinions on a wide variety of non-political subjects. Actually, I enjoy reading many of these posts, but they do cost money. Any chance of having a dedicated thread for this info?

I'm glad this was brought up. I usually search for the title and if that returns nil I try to search for one or two of the words that seem to best convey the sense of the article.

The other day I posted a duplicate that also touched on some more of the issues you raise:
Raise the Fist web site taken down by Feds (my title)

It was a story about a web site that the Feds had taken down (as hopefully the title implies). The article was from Indymedia and their title seemed "made up" (for want of a better word) as well, so I made up a title that seemed to best fit the article and labeled it so. I usually use the title for keywords but in this case I didn't know what to do so I left it blank.

proud patriot also posted the article: traitor's site raided by the FBI

I thought the article was highly relevant as it covered constitutional issues (some of which are of direct concern to the operation of FR), the ongoing war and the Patriot Act. The discussion was quite lively and I felt that it was a good, thought provoking thread- at least mine was ;-).

My questions was, was this an acceptable source and what could proud patriot and I have done to ensure there was no double posting? Also, when inventing keywords for a post, should there be a comma/semicolon between words, should a space come after the comma/semicolon (sometimes search machines read the space as a character). Could you give us some insight or a protocol for keywords and how to make them more relevant?

One last issue. I like photos, but I dread clicking on a thread that I know will have them because they inevitably take a long time to load. Is there someway you could work out a way to store thumbnails on the FR server that a person could use for the article instead of the full image? The poster could link the thumbnail to the image source on a remote host, like I've done on my Freeper Page. You could maybe give each poster, say- 50- 100 kilobytes for thumbnail storage and when they reach their limit and want to post a new image, they'd have to delete one from their store. Then you could ban full sized images altogether. What I see as an advantage here is, even if a poster went and deleted the thumb from an article, since it was created as a link, the link to the remote image would still work and a reader could hopefully still view the images in an archived article. And of course the article would load faster with thumbs. Just a thought.

I realize that Mr. Robinson is under no obligation to do anything with FR but what he wants, but I think that the reason for a lot of the flaming is that post 9-11 many of the coalitions among non-liberals are breaking down as new issues and questions come to the fore.

Mr. Robinson has no reason to be bound (or even interested) by my definition of conservatism, but we are going to have flamewars and mutual insult threads until there is some working definition, stated in terms of the post 9-11 situation, to serve as a guideline. The flames and insults come about because we have totally irreconcilable views on matters of basic principle here, all claiming to be true conservatism.

Some of these differences weren't so much to the fore before 9-11 -- the issues were different. Except for the Allen Keyes, theology and libertarian threads much of the flaming and insults I see are on threads to do with terrorism and Israel. That's where 9-11 has brought to the surface a difference in principle that wasn't so obvious during the Clinton era. For example, we have had numerous posters compare Palestinian suicide bombers to the Founding Fathers. I don't think there is any way to argue constructively over the gap that opens up.

While we're on the "Things I'd like to see ended on FR" topic, how about a moratorium on the Catholic bashing posts.

Thank you for this. I took a long break from FR because I was so tired of seeing this forum bashing the Republicans just as much as the liberal forums do.
As a conservative, I hope that we can all work together to defeat the real enemy, the socialist liberals who will destroy our nation if they are allowed to gain power again.
I appreciate the effort by Jim and the staff to redirect this forum to its original objective.

Jim, How do I report what I feel are bugs with the Web Page(s)? I sent a second email to the WebMaster, since I had not gotten a reply from my first one sent several days ago. And the bug is still there. thanks, Marv
