The nation's most notorious feminist organization will try to stop all action on judicial nominees.
The National Organization for Women (NOW) is calling on the Senate to filibuster all of the president's judicial nominees. NOW says it will organize demonstrations in senators' home offices, including sit-ins and mock filibusters.
Michael Schwartz, vice president of government relations at Concerned Women for America, for one, hopes the feminist group does what it says it will do. Schwartz said such activities would only embarrass the senators, and in a backward way, would help frame the debate correctly.
"The debate is all about whether we will have an independent judiciary, or whether we will have a judiciary dictated by pressure groups like the National Organization of Women," he said.
In calling its members to action, NOW which is planning its office protests for March 8 describes judicial nominees as "anti-woman," "ultraconservative" and "right wing ideologues."
Former presidential candidate Gary Bauer who now heads an organization called American Values said he isn't surprised by the feminist tactic.
"I think this is just further evidence of the death-throes of that pro-abortion movement," Bauer said. "They're slowly losing the battle for the hearts and minds of the American people."
Bauer said if anyone is still asking questions about a "litmus test" for judges, this basically wraps it up.
"The radical left and those senators that dance to their tune do have a litmus test, and that litmus test is that they will oppose anyone who believes that all of our children should be welcomed into the world and protected by the law," Bauer said.
While the Senate, under pressure, has allowed some district judges through, they're still holding back every appeals court nominee. Schwartz called the current stalling a "silent filibuster," in which hearings for nominees are simply never scheduled.
A successful filibuster would prevent any of Bush's nominees from ever coming up for a vote in the Senate. It only takes 41 senators to keep a filibuster alive.
Wishful thinking. The "soccer moms" are getting more liberal every day. Without them x42 would never have been President. We need less ineffective retail protesting, and more and slicker media approaches.
We should all ask that that money be moved to where it's needed. After all, most women aren't lesbians. They are a minority of ugly women who are just demanding attention like the good looking ones get.
"... give a rat's a** what 2 dozen old lesbians think? Time to give them all a reality check..."
It would seem that they'll be spread-a-bit-thin, but that's a visual I can do without! There was carpet everywhere!! It was just,,,,,SWELL!!(Think SNL - throbbing and pulsating parts by the Church-Lady)
These nimrod-NOW bitches are now reduced to something that we scrape off our shoes, as it should be. And there's less of it every day!
Of course, if we ever mention this, as married-men, we hit the wall of: "They have all the Pu$$y, and half of your money!!
I can think of a lot of reasons for a man to never marry, or at least, to never do it a third time!
Relax, we're moving to the left-coast of Florida. I'm goin' fishin'......FRegards
I'm not suggesting Trent "Spineless" Lott would ever do this, but I don't see anything in the constitution about filibusters.....
