New Zealander builds Hobbit hole

New Zealander builds Hobbit hole

A New Zealand man has built a Hobbit house.

Carl Gifford, a stonemason from Wellington, says he used a 10-tonne digger to make the hole.

He's put rocks either side of the front door and plans to install a chimney and lantern on top.

He told the Evening Post he was embarrassed as he was constructing the home.

He said: "I must admit I was hiding as the cars were driving past. I thought, 'These people think I'm an idiot'."

The house is part of a series of stonework mounds, designs and sculptures dotted around his land.

"I'm just having a bit of fun. Things that were built by those ancient people like caves have always fascinated me."

I think just the "copy-paste method." That's the only way I know of...

I saved the whole thing in Word... as one way of backing it up.

Well, IMHO, we should move the hole over before the trolls give us grief... and show a good faith effort to convert to the new system.

I will try very hard to get an answer on moving the Green Dragon, and I think we should request that this thread be locked so it doesn't continue in both places.

Anyway that is my thought at the moment.

How much space did it take up? Just think how many Green Dragons we could make by the time this is over. :)

Well, like I say...I'd just soon post here till I can't anymore. And locking it would be one way to stop me! LOL! I'll do whatever everybody else does. I'm unflappable, remember! ;-)

The Green Dragon Word doc? - It is not that big... If we can't move it, my plan is to copy and paste the comments (or a selection of them) into a new thread over there.

The HH egroup looks fabulous! Who put the pic of Tolkien up? It really classed up our site!

I must say, this egroup is one well-done thing! I just can't get over all the work you guys have put into the site!

Guilty. I started our first poll this morning, too.

I answered that poll! - Do we get to know who everyone voted for at the end?

Well, you do now, but by changing the options, I erased all the votes. Oops.

It's a neat poll! I had to think for a while before answering. Should be interesting to see what everyone puts!

Is it possible to pick up and move this thread where it belongs in the new forum? We would very much like to know if it can be done! We have come to love this place, though we understand that progress is going on around us.

I have asked this question in "new-forum" related threads, but have not gotten any answer... I seek only the right answer "yes, we can move it" or "no, you must abandon it" so we know what to do. If it can be moved later when things settle down a bit, we would rather not start another one.

If it entails work, but is possible, we would like to especially save and move our other ongoing thread... Green Dragon Inn, because a lot of work has gone into it, and quality discussion has been had there. If we can reach that compromise, we can start a new Hobbit Hole thread for general Tolkien chit-chat, which this has become.

Can I please have some guidance? Who, when, and what should I ask?

Being invisible is beginning to wear on my sunny disposition. What do I have to do to get noticed by the "powers that be" around here? post a thread? The Admin Moderators posted instructions to all the daily threads yesterday, and they are now over there, and many are noticing that we are not.

It is easy for them to move, because they are new daily. What are the "One Threads" supposed to do anyway?
