Outrage--SNL Insults Christians, Pro-Lifers
Montag

Did anyone see the disturbing (and quite unfunny) "TV Funhouse" segment on SNL this evening?

They were attempting (one supposes) to insult Pat Robertson, but succeeded only in ridiculing Christians and those who value life and the unborn.

They portrayed a fictional Robertson-sponsored cartoon, in which "embyonic cell" and "Ted Trimester" (1st-trimester fetus) characters were placed in a work environment, as if they were high-powered workers. The characters were unintelligable, yet the other adult characters responded as if those two were geniuses. Also interspersed were a "Mr Parkinson" man seeking to kill the fetuses for their stem cells, who, upon being shown Jesus' image by the the "cell" character, ripped up a homosexual porno magazine (the "Robertson" scharacter asserts that if someone has a disease like Parkinsons it must be because Jesus is punishing them for being gay) and gives up his gun.

The message was clear: it is absurd to suppose that life begins at conception, because it is absurd to suppose that fetuses could function in the workplace. Also the piece asserts that one would have to be an extremist, homophobic Christian to value the unborn or have a problem with harvesting fetuses for stem cells.

Christianity is mocked and absurdly portrayed throughout the piece, which received very few laughs from the audience (do they really expect it to be funny?)

My wife and I were shocked by this, and the more we thought about it, the more disturbed we became.

When two objects collide (and stick together) the result always has less kinetic energy -- it has to in order to conserve momementum.

Ah ha, but where does the energy go?

I don't care what you say or think about fetuses. I expect a little more collective outrage from a conservative forum.

yep. Calling a woman "ignorant slut" was innocent and brilliant comedy. Ahh, the good old days of SNL.

The weird thing is the 8 years that clinton was president, they never once made fun of him or liberals.

In fact the funny part was the characterization of Christian evangalists assuming a picture of Jesus is going to sway people's opinions 180 degrees,

I don't know any evangelists, even the weirdos, who believe this.

their constant scriptural quoting attempting to overcome the weight of fossil evidence and the like.

Now, that is funny. Scripture quotations are only relevant in such a context to someone who already believes it is the Word of God. Quoting the Bible in an argument with an unbeliever is stupid (and therefore funny).

There are perfectly valid scientific arguments against evolution. You may not consider such arguments adequate, but they do exist, and have been beaten to death on FR on many threads.

From a Christian forum, yeah. Not every none religious person favors big government. So there are actually non-religious conservatives. Non-Christian for sure.

Guess what, there actually pro-choice conservatives. Go figure.

Abortion is not strictly a liberal versus conservative issue. There is a correlation (and it is an imperfect one), only because conservatives tend to be more religious.

Ha, but apparently there are others here that assert it never or seldom happens. ha ha

Who asserted that? I've only asked for proof of your assertion that it does, while stating that I myself have not seen it.

I watched SNL last night but I didn't see the cartoon you speak of because the cartoon is my cue to go to the kitchen for a snack. It is always crude & insulting & NOT funny. What ever group they happen to pick on gets the same awful slam. I love SNL in general especially the re-runs.

An important point, too. The majority of Democrats are against abortion. Their party leadership has been hijacked by ideologues whose religion and the highest arbiter of right and wrong is the Democratic Party.

Yeah, Chevy Chase is overrated. The early SNL stuff pretty good, but the show didn't hit its stride until the mid-80's, in my opinion. To me, the pinnacle was from about '88 through '94 or so. Sprockets, Anal Retentive Chef, Yard-a-pult, George Bush, Deep Thoughts, Daily Affirmations, Sarcastic Clapping Family, Happy Fun Ball, Dennis Miller's Weekend Update, etc... Plus, the G.E. Smith band was ultra-righteous.

"This show hasn't been good, ooooooh, for more than a decade. The fact that people still watch that crap is astonishing."

I think the quality of Saturday Night Live's brand of humor is simply indicative not only of the degradation of morality in the United States but of the fruit of public education as well. Where is the demand for excellence that was once the norm? Is it just me or has the television industry completely run out of innovative ideas and talent or is it that offensiveness now passes for innovation? Maybe it's just that in light of the demand networks have for youthful writers, there is just nothing in their experience that serves as a point of comparison.

You're probably having lots of fun painting me and other evangelicals as extremists, but the joke is on you. You see, even when I was a semi-liberal, pro-choice, non-Christian, I couldn't have imagined making a joke about abortion, or laughing over killing a third trimester fetus with my other semi-liberal, pro-choice, New Age friends, many of them post-abortion and well into the accompanying post-abortion depression. But I guess since I left the pro-choice crowd, they've really come a long way, baby!

The majority of Democrats are against abortion.

Who cares? The majority of Democrats are against capitalism and favor socialism. What the heck does majoritarianism have to do with anything. Oh right, you're one of those fair-weather socialists -- as long as it serves your religion, socialism is great.

Yeh mark what gave it away?? Lol, First in the east not too bad.

LOL, I don't know. I am a Blackhawks fan, and glad to see them stop being the NHL doormat any more. They are still several players away from being a Stanley Cup contender, but they are doing better.

As an atheist I do, thanks. But in return you have thousands upon thousands of your leaders get up in pulpits every day and condemn atheist such as myself to infinite damnation in hell, so expect a little payback, okay?

What else can a losing advocate of a 1/2 a percent party say, except that those grapes are sour anyway?
