Ashcroft Faces Quandary Over Clinton Scandal Secrets

Sometime in the next three months Attorney General John Ashcroft is expected to decide whether to make public still-secret evidence in an array of Clinton-Gore scandals, including Whitewater, Filegate, Chinagate and the Monica Lewinsky imbroglio.

The evidence comes in the form of nearly 2 million recovered e-mails that Justice Department lawyers will review with attorneys for the former president and vice president.

In a Jan. 9 filing with U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth, the Bush Justice Department revealed that Corbett Technologies of Alexandria, Va., had completed the process known as the "Tape Restoration Project."

"From 189 failed [e-mail] tapes, 53,149 unique e-mails were restored and added to the TRP. In total, the number of unique TRP e-mails is 1,844,242," the DOJ said.

Nearly half the 189 tapes, 71, were blank.

"White House whistle-blowers who have talked to people who have seen this e-mail believe it contains incriminating evidence," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton told NewsMax.com Monday.

The e-mails cover critical periods in the late 1990s and were under subpoena by Congress and the independent counsel. Sources familiar with their contents have described them as potentially very damaging.

Judicial Watch first revealed the White House e-mail scandal in 1999, when then-Clinton administration computer expert Sheryl Hall told the legal watchdog group that critical e-mail evidence was being withheld.

After Hall's revelation, another White House computer expert testified he was told to keep quiet or there would be "a jail cell with your name on it."

The restored electronic files also cover illicit Commerce Department trade missions in which tickets allegedly were sold to corporate donors to the Democratic National Committee, and may even contain evidence on Enrongate.

One odd coincidence: Attorney Earl Silbert, who now represents Enron CEO Ken Lay, also represented Clinton Chinagate kingpin James Riady as well as Northrop-Grumman, one of the independent contractors hired by the Clinton White House to help with e-mail retrieval.

"Now the question is will the Department of Justice under Ashcroft divulge what they find?" Fitton said.

A recent Bush executive order shielding materials of past administrations from discovery could be invoked in this case, he warned.

""One odd coincidence: Attorney Earl Silbert, who now represents Enron CEO Ken Lay..." Info. (conspiracy) management. I guess a handful of people can keep secrets better than many. Politricks as usual.

Didn't say you needed to trust anyone, just that lies are a part of the process: no one knew the Japanese were en-route to Hawaii,
no one knew their pet dictator (pick a name) was shipping funds to the islands,
no one knew the Kosovo protection corps was the KLA with new badges,
no one knew Lenin was on a train to Moscow,
no one knew all the illiterate voters on that bus were illegal immigrants....

But once a lie has been placed in the books as fact, even tenuously, no following administration is likely to discredit it;
probably not even when it would benefit them in the short term.
Exception when the lie was tactical and can be disclosed reasonably quickly by the same person who told it,
(as in, well, yes, Saudi Arabia might have mentioned wanting us out but we didn't want to shake the coalition up...)

And please believe me, I DO have that clue.

Kinda depends on the consistancy it comes up from any one source.

For my part I don't like his position on immigration or his all-too-GOP-like insistance on pretending DC is bipartisan.

Otherwise, I'd give him a strong B to B+.

They already admit to it,

of course, it was an accident, caused by one man's insane belief in God, with illegal, child molesting, gun nut, tendancies.

Not at all the fault of the officer who needed fifty back up goons to knock on the front door, or on the helicopters and tanks roaming the neighborhood, or the screaming rabbits and howling press releases.

None of that stuff, just an accidental bit of self defense.

No one would have died at Ruby Ridge either, if only that dog had been on a leash.

And do you think they will ever admit that FBI, ATF, Delta Force killed Christian men, women and children at Waco?

While there is no doubt that the FBI and ATF were involved in these murders, anybody who says Delta Force was is a damn liar.

No, pete. It was admitted that Delta Force was there, "as observers only."

Restored e-mail files?

Do I smell obstruction of justice?

There is a huge difference between being a observer, and being a participant in murder, don't you think? The statement I was refuting was the one stating they had been involved in these murders.

Hey friend.... I find it interesting that today they announce that Hillary is demanding they turn over Doc's related to Enron. These people are just frggin nuts!!! Don't they realize that "we" know her and billybobs past? Their stall tactics, obstruction, lying. Sheesh!!!!

This boils down to ONE thing,.. the Dems are frantic because there isn't anything to beat Bush up on. His is doing it ethically ( a concept unkown to the Clinton's ) and quiet expeditiously.

This Democratic scandal.. is only going to be about a very large company trying to get out quick enough to make some dough for the good ole boys'... while screwing over the people who did the REAL work, the layman.

Should be fun to watch. If you enjoy watching nothing. (I do not mean the people/workers who just got screwed out of their retirements and investments.. that is wrong.. criminally wrong, and I pray with all my heart that the higher ups involved will share some cell time with Charles Manson) But the whole reason it is even being directed at the White House..is plain and simple PAYBACK!!! And,.. "We don't like you, the Public does,.. so we GOTTA do something"....

They are making horses ass's of themselves. Hypocrits too. I think this time,...the American Public has been paying a little more attention to it all..and it just won't wash.

The Dems can say good bye to the Senate!!

It is my honest belief that there is something deeper and much more fundamental going on here. For years, there have been investigation after invetigation of the clintons and though everyone knew they were guilty, they had backed up their butts so well that no one could prove it. Those who could *died*. I am wondering if there is actually a real behind the scenes investigation going on and Ashcroft does not want to have a real investigation interfered with by congressional hacks that would spin, cheat, lie, and see murders committed to silence potential witnesses.
BTW, anyone who believes that Baxter wasn't just the latest Arkancide is fanatasizing. Baxter was a very rich man with a huge mansion who could have taken a massive OD of any drug and died quietly and painlessly between satin sheets. This was a warning. It stinks.

No quandary here, IMHO...release the evidence, AG Ashcroft, and the Sheeple'll point out exactly where the crimes were committed since you and the DoJ apparently can't figger it out!!

Doesn't matter who is scared and chewin nails - just sit back and relax everyone; when the following case goes to depositions - the s*** will hit the fan - and all involved will...

Chase; I will bet you 100.00 against a hole in a doughnut, the KKKlintoons will skate on this matter, just like they have on any other accusations.
