Three Britons among the suspected al-Qaeda fighters held by US military authorities at a naval base in Cuba are well and have "no complaints" about their treatment, according to a spokesman for Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Quoting a report by British officials who visited the men at the Guantanamo Bay base in Cuba, the spokesman said there was "no sign of any mistreatment."
"The British had no complaints about their treatment," the spokesman said Monday. "They are in good physical health."
"There were no gags, no goggles, no shackles while the detainees are in their cells. They only wear shackles when they are outside," he added.
He said the men had been able to speak "freely and without inhibition," and had asked for messages to be passed to their families, which British officials were now doing.
The detained Britons have also had contact with the Red Cross.

Maybe we're going about this torture thing wrong. Here's an idea:
Find two fairly large buildings that are adjacent to each other and transport all the prisoners into ONE of them. Then, tell them that we have arrested their family members and we've put them in the building next to the building they are in. Take a useless shell of a 747 and fly that puppy right into the buiilding they think their family is in as they watch. Then, about 20 minutes later, have another plane fly into their building.
Anyone who survives gets to go home.
Or:
We make them endlessly listen to Barbara Streisands "People" and "Evergreen."
Which would be worse?
It's just the stupid media making headlines.
Let me tell you how these people should 'have' been treated. The pilots (equipped with freefall 'chutes) should have set the plane on a trajectory with Baghdads 'Cross Swords' monument, then bailed out somewhere over Iran, after radioing in that the plane was being taken over by the terrorists, thus killing 3 birds with 1 stone.
1. This would leave Saddam reeling from a supposed attack by the terrorists who he supports.
2. It would test Irans pledge of support to the US, by them finding, and treating well the pilots before sending them safely back to the US.
3. Not having to contend with the views of the do-gooders crying out about foul treatment of these terrorists.
Of course, this is purely theoretical people.
Please remember people that the headlines of a newspaper, and comments made in some columns are the belief of the person writing them, they may not necessarily be the view of the majority of the population, we do have our own views.
You are now implying that Jack Straw speaks for me, my friend. Be under no illusion that Jack Straw most definately doesn't speak for me, and as for your thread link, what exactly was the point of that, you have me baffled there, as it is just more false anti-British crap with a lot of half truths that you Americans love to read and comment about, and nothing about what the true feeling of the British people is. And it seems that, as usual, the Americans don't want to hear about the majority support that they are getting from Britain.
A proud Brit.

This is not about you Tony,it's about the British press and the liberal estabishment that is destroying the Culture of Life.
No one even intimates that British White Flag surrender monkeys include conservatives. Unfortunately, the dry rot of liberalism is far more advanced in Britain than the U.S. Best to you and yours - :-)
love that freebritania.uk.com....
all evidence to the contrary it would seem. who is 'he'?
I agree totally, but this was always going to be an option that the left would try and use.
What I object to is people on the right also using this as an opportunity to bash Britain as a whole, not you but there are those who have.
So instead of doing what I want to do which is say yes these journalists are nothing but trouble and maybe share stories of the lies printed about my Army and in fact one of the units I served with ion North Ireland I instead end up in a flaming match with anti Brit freepers.
jjbrouwer and other Brit freepers will bare this out with me since they have been involved with quite a few of these flame rows.
But I am sorry if I blamed you, no blame intended, and I am always willing to kiss and make up, as the missus will agree.
Cheers Tony
Sometimes I worry that I might go to far when I defend my own country.
Of course Britain has problems, there is much I disagree with, with the present government, and the press especially the Guardian, I used to be able to read that paper but not after the Terrorist attack against America.
But we have a free press and this government was democratically elected.
I dont mind attacks against certain institutions and definitely welcome attacks against the press such as the guardian.
But it pisses me of when some freepers post a guardian article as representative of Britain as a whole.
Therefore instead of agreeing that the article is a pile of horse manure I find myself forced into almost defending it only because the article is out as representing Britain.
I guess loving your country is like loving your family you know there faults but you dont welcome outside attacks especially if they are not based on total facts.
Cheers Tony
snigger she knows her place.
Cheers Tony
